Thought it would be nice to come to one place to talk about camera's. Which ones you have, special features, etc. And also so others looking to buy can get a good idea of what's out there, and the cost.

I had a really tough time deciding on an affordable camera for us. Ended up going with the Nikon L110. Just got it today so can't tell you much about it yet. I'll have to fiddle around with it and get back to ya.

Price was on sale $255.00 so I was pleased with that.

Anyways, please, share your cameras with us and give us insight.

if anyone else has the same camera as I do, tell me how you like it.
:)

i decided to splurge and buy a camera today. I'm still sportin a Canon Powershot S410, which is maybe 3 MP and at least 5 or 6 years old. It has survived a long time to heavy usage but is now starting to go a little bit at a time. When I take pics now, the top third of the screen is a darker area, which also transposes into the downloaded pictures.

So last night I started looking online and found a good deal. Last weekend when I was at the Phoenix Comicon, there were two things that caused me to know that I needed a better camera.

1) waiting in line for Stan Lee's signature and everyone was using these awesome cameras with great zoom and big view finders. I knew mine was obsolete, but I didn't know how bad till I saw what others had.

2) sitting 2 rows back watching the Stan Lee panel and again, everyone gets their cameras out and I become even more envious.

I ask the person next to me at the panel, who I was also talking to in line at the signing, and ask him how much he spent on his camera. He had some sort of Sony DSLR (I may not have the lingo down yet) and he said it was $500.

So again, back to last night, I look on slickdeals and fatwallet and gotapex and see this deal on Amazon where you can buy a Canon DSLR, and then basically get a free extra lens and a $400 printer for only $30. When I tried last night, I must have been doing something wrong, because I couldn't get the option to be sold/shipped from Amazon (which is necessary for the rebate), but today at work I figured it out.

So this is what I am now waiting on:

  • "Canon EOS Rebel T1i 15.1 MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera with 3-Inch LCD and EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens"
  • "Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon SLR Cameras"
  • "Canon PIXMA Pro9000 Mark II Inkjet Photo Printer (3295B002)"

My total after rebate will be $1134-$400 = $734.

So basically a $700 camera with a "free" extra lens and what appears to be a good print thrown in for an extra $34.

I definitely wasn't planning on spending this much, but after reading the reviews, and justifying the purchase due to the fact that I haven't bought a camera in over 6 years, AND because I just sold some stuff on Ebay and have some cash in my paypal, I went for it.

Can anyone comment on the camera model I just bought? I have never taken a picture with one of those fancy type of camera, strictly a point and shoot guy before.

Decent purchase Scott. It's a good cam to get your feet wet with DSLRs. However, if you plan to take good photos at cons and stuff, you might need a faster (more expensive) lens than what you are currently getting. the ones you got will get you bye with good lighting though.

I'm really confused with my camera. I take photos and for some reason, we look really fat in the photos. It's okay to be big, but we're not, and I am not sure how to adjust this problem. We looks stretched out.

Anyone know what's up?

What's the camera in the commercial where the chick is walking around talking about it and then at the end says the commercial was filmed using one? It's a pretty recent one. I was looking into it, then forgot about it, and now don't have a clue what it was. If you know the one I'm takling about feel free to give thoughts on it as well.

edit: Finally found it. It's the new Olympus Pen EP-1. Anyone have any insight on this one?

I'm no camera pro I have apoint and click but this is my guess:

Most cameras when you use them on auto, start defaulted to a wider angle to fit things on screen, you have to manually zoom a bit to change it.

When you shoot in wide angle, whatevers closest to the lens is distorted really big. Usually unflattering things like your nose or belly.

Between my financial obligations and this hobby, I sadly don't have a Digi Cam and am allways using my sister's. If I were to get a camera can someone recommend a good one for $250 or less.

I got my wife (and myself) a Canon Rebel Xsi last month... still learning how to use it, but really digging it so far. Right now we just have the kit lens, but would eventually like to get some more.

Recently got the Panasonic GF1, and the lenses are really expensive. Especially so the macro lens.

Previously using the Fujifilm Z2.

Decided to get the GF1 instead of another Point&Shoot due to the larger image sensor, and interchangeable lens capability.

I sincerely mean this question. Are there any cameras that make you a better photographer? Meaning, with very little knowledge of how to use lighting, lenses, etc. something you can just point click and have a good looking photo? A camera for camera-tards?

I would also be very interested in such a Camera....
Can we also add.... affordable:monkey3

OMG, I luv my new Canon Rebel GSi1 (or whatever model I just got). So many options. Still working on the "amateur" settings. I'm amazed at how many pictures I can get off. My old point and shoot sometimes took a good 5 seconds to shoot. This one is FAST.

Still trying to figure out how to get my field of view on the LCD and not just through the viewfinder.

Yeah, that's not it. Doesn't matter the zoom, still fat.

Wierd. I was gonna suggest zooming in a little too.

My camera, at full wide, is a 28mm and it does what it sounds like your talking about, but when I zoom in a bit (to make it more like 35mm) it fixes that.

Which model is that?? :lol

Ok, I have a Nikon P6000.

I know it has some manual settings, but I am so inexperienced, I don't know how to manage them. What do they mean ? What do they do ?

Can anyone provide any insight ?
