With the huge success of the Enterbay Basketball players and some other sport figures trickling out - do we need a section just for sports figures/collectibles?

I'd be happy to have them stay put in the general section - I don't think the EB NBA line points to more sports figures being made. This line will pass and there'll be nothing else except for a couple of soccer players.

I sort of agree, I don't see any NFL or NHL players being made due to the complexity of pads/uniforms/helmets. I don't see MLB being made as its popularity is dying with the HGH crap, who would they make? Ichiro?

Soccer is probably their only other sport and it won't sell in the US, but might in Asia and Europe. Hell I would even buy a Pele figure :wink1:

I wouldn't say the NBA line is dead though, EB has shown they can make quality figures (not amazing but decent) and people are willing to pay $180-$200 for stars and $250+ for Jordan. There are plenty of HOFers they can still produce that would sell well (Bird, Johnson, Chamberlain, Dr. J...), the real question is current players, sure Kobe sold okay and so will LeBron, but guys like Rose and Durant I am not sure about, and after that, who is really going to buy Griffin?

I say yes just for the sake of making the forum neater and easier to navigate. The more sections the better IMO.

Yea im tried of going in the general collectibles section and seeing sports figures imo.

I would vote no for the reasons Lejuan points out. If we started seeing high end baseball or football players or something, then maybe. But the handful of EB b-ball players and Iminime's handful of soccer guys don't warrant a new section IMO.

I vote yes. There is much more to sports collectables than just 1/6 figs. Kind of like the Horror section for example, how it has figs and then others sections. But I think sports should be one in the same. There is plenty of sports interest on this site, see the various in season threads in other topics.

No, unless it actually picks up and gets more popular. Swedish makes a good point, i think that would be a better option

If we had an "Action figures - other than 1/6" then we'd need it for every topic, right? Are there really that many non-1/6 threads?

with the increasing number of "sports figures" that are coming out from enterbay (including the annouced soccer line) and storm toys figures, i would assume it'd be better. that could also include nba mcfarlane releases and the funko pop.

I think a General - 1/6, General - Statues and General - non 1/6 would suffice, not a non 1/6 for every category. There's hardly enough activity in Horror to justify three separate subs. I say move all the smaller than 1/6 into the General "non 1/6"

There's more non 1/6 threads than there are 1/6 threads.

You had previously wanted to close Whedonville due to lack of activity. You're exploring the possibility of a Sports section due to burgeoning activity. There are two Sports threads and 12 "non 1/6" threads. I am trying to follow the logic of "lots of threads with a common format = new subforum"

Close Disney, Indy and Whedonville, move their respective threads into Statues, non 1/6, etc and you have PLENTY of threads to justify a "smaller than 1/6" sub-forum. I think General Collectibles should be a 1/6 forum for DAM, Kaustic, Art Figures, Flirty Girl, Triad, Play Toy, Brothers Production, etc. All the other smaller 1/6 manufacturers that produce non-licensed figures that don't fit mainstream categories. I already see that it's hard to gain traction on this forum if it's not based on an existing property, but I think if more people saw the stuff, it could have more of a chance to shine, get seen, help sales.

There's a lot of cool stuff out there, but you have to trawl BBICN and other forums that aren't well known to see it. I think this is a 1/6 forum and I don't think discussion about 6 inch figures should be pushing down discussion about 12 inch figures. If I wanted to know about 6 inch figures, I'd go to The Fwoosh.

I'm not advocating closing any forums, but I'm just playing devil's advocate as far as activity justifying whether a forum lives or dies.

What he aaid.

I do think we need an anime/japanese section though.

How about a Sports section like the video games? Then we can move the NBA, NFL & MLS general discussion threads along with the 1/6 figures all in to one section.

You highlighted the Star Trek thread there, there are 1:6 figures discussed in that thread, it's for anything Trek related.

I don't think SSF needs more sub categories like Sports, Manga/Anime, or smaller than 1:6 scale stuff, it just leads to more confusion trying to find something.

:goodpost: I agree. It's better than being in a general collectibles - action figure thread. People with common interests in sports would benefit from having easy access to threads that pertain sports.

Voted "yes" from egoistic POV cuz I don't care about sport figures and would like 'em to be somewhere out there.
BUT there's indeed not that much threads for it.
