Was curious to see how many people buy collectibles based on just a like for a piece despite not being involved much or at all in what it's from.

I buy if they look good. I bought Darth Talon & preorder (soon to be) Malgus & Shaak Ti without knowing who they are. Usually if the sculpt is based off my favorite artist or sculptor, then I will buy. A nice Culo helps too :D

I bought the Hot Toys Jack Sparrow because I liked the sculpt but I wouldn't consider myself a fan of the movies. I also bought that girl in the movie because I got Sparrow. I'm a much bigger fan of Indiana Jones but I haven't got the Hot toys figure because of the sculpt. So sometimes I buy something because of the piece itself and sometimes I buy something simply because I'm a fan of the movie, cartoon from my past, etc.

I have ordered Malgus too despite not playing the game at all, just because he looks fantastic.

I started collecting 3A at the beginning of the year based soley on how they looked.

I'd have ordered the hot toys movie Green Lantern before seeing the film as i loved the design of it from the first pics.

If a piece speaks to my interest even if i don't know about it or am interested in the source material i'll go fo it.

Since there is a ton of varied collectibles nowadays, the companies care :lecture

I gurantee you they want to get additional sales from those who don't follow the source material to buy a product.

Yes it was but it was one that i was going to buy based sole on design.

No , i just can't stand all these retarded threads you and your Brother Nova make cluttering the boards with bull sheeeeeeeeeeeet

So a thread discussing motivations on buying based on design vs license is bull sheeeeeeeeet but a thread saying "oh my god HT have a little less quality heads now, let's all panic" isn't? :cuckoo:

Sort of. I love the Tron movies, but I don't have a huge emotional investment in them. However, I bought the HT Kevin Flynn figure simply because I liked his character in the film and Jeff Bridges is one my top 5 favorite actors.

Personally, I wouldn't buy something if I didn't know anything or much about the source material. I only have things in my collection that I care about.

Yep - but not recently.

Goeman, Warlords, Spirit, Alien Vs. Predator, and the list goes on.

I almost always buy based on my connection with the source material, but there are a few exceptions. I bought Black Panther PF because I just loved the design and execution, but I knew little to nothing about the character. I read up on the character after I had bought the collectible.

I like whatever my eyes like so I very often buy characters who I have no idea who they are until after I see the statue and do some research.

I voted for "rarely", as usually I only buy things that I like already and for some reason, like a favourite character etc, but I have done otherwise too. If I see something I like from first sight, it really doesn´t matter what it actually belongs to. Like a cute little cardboard box Danbo figure that I have - I know it is from a manga series but I don´t really read manga so no idea if it should be something special. For me it is a cute little box. I actually named him as "Little Box".

Though, it would feel a bit awkward to own something you´d like for it´s looks, and hear afterwards it´s actually some disgusting character just looking cute. ;) If I´m unsure I make a google search and learn.

I completely ****ing stopped caring if i have contact with the source material. I just buy the best looking statues. However, since I watch movies, have played loads of video games, and read comics I almost always have experience with the statues I buy however, I may not like the characters or whatever they were in much though.

I guess this started when I was collecting the X-Men comiquette line quite recently. They were so small and not the MOST gorgeous statues. They were quite good though. But because they are all 1/5th scale they also looked rather cluttered and messy. I'd rather display a gorgeous Diablo 3 Overthrown than Colossus comiquette even though I have more experience with Colossus because its just not at pretty and looks cluttered

So that turned me off of collecting lines and idk I just said **** it, whatever is the most pretty, that's what I'm buying and displaying.

So now I bought some pretty sweet statues of characters I am a huge fan of: Obiwan Mythos (I am quite disappointed it is not 1/4 scale), PCS Guile and Sagat, and am hoping to get Captain America PF (the old comic one), maybe ill get Bison, dunno but Sagat looks stunning

Think ill get P Ivy too

I never buy a character I know nothing about but I used to when I was into 1/6 but recently I decided to change over to 1/4 & concentrate only on the characters I really like & only have one piece represent each character. I've got a small list of grails I'm going to try & get once I've payed off all my PO's which I will hopefully have done in 3 months time.

If I see a collectible that I like but don't know anything about, I'll first look into what it's about. If I still like it, I might consider buying it.
