DBZ's time in the sun has come and gone. I've been a fan of Dragonball and its sequels Z and GT since I had to watch them in Japanese and not have any clue what was being said, to watch subtitled pieces. The franchise really had a quick glory period that like other Japanese imports lately has come and gone. There is a feature film being made as we speak but from reading online synopsis and plot leaks, it seems like the producers and directors are completely changing the story making Goku a nerdy teenager outcast who trains with Grandpa Gohan by chance.....Two different "sources" that have posted online seem to have two different plot lines one following the original DB series and the other DBZ, specifically the Vegeta Saga. That probably is your best bet for companies like SSC and HT to nab some DB inspired things but I don't think realistically we'll see anything from the animated series......

Hmmm....P!tu is cheering himself. Interesting. What's interesting is the picture post above with the Legendary Saiyan or Saiya-jin Broly. The films of DBZ which included characters like Broly, Bo-Jack, etc. are not in continuity with the TV series at all, in fact many pieces of the feature films contradict small details of what goes in the series....One would have to wonder if a company made high end DBZ stuff would they stick to the series itself or branch off into the films as well.

Im sure they would do what ever brings them more money!

AP- DRAGONBALL LIVE ACTION MOVIE SET, GOKU CAST

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

HONG KONG (AP) Hollywood studio Twentieth Century Fox plans to make a movie version of the popular Japanese comic book series ``Dragonball'' with help from a famed filmmaker from Hong Kong, where Japanese comics and animation are popular.

Fox said in a statement issued Wednesday in Hong Kong that local comedian Stephen Chow will produce the live action movie ``Dragonball'' and James Wong, a former writer for the TV series ``The X-Files'' and director of ``Final Destination,'' will direct.

Chow's credits include ``Shaolin Soccer'' and ``Kung Fu Hustle.''

Fox said Justin Chatwin, who played the son of Tom Cruise's character in ``War of the Worlds,'' will portray the lead character Goku and James Marsters is cast as Goku's main enemy, Piccolo.

Marsters played the vampire Spike on the TV series ``Buffy the Vampire Slayer.''

``Dragonball'' revolves around Goku's quest to protect Earth from evil forces who want to take over the planet and control mystical objects known as ``dragonballs.''

Fox said the film, whose budget was not announced, will start shooting later this year and will be released worldwide on Aug. 15, 2008.

Fox is owned by media mogul Rupert Murdoch's News Corp

This has the smell of a stinker all over it already......It will take a revamp of the original DB series but Goku will be a older high school student instead of a child.

Doesn't sound very promising! I wish they'd just wait until they are able to make a movie as close as possible to the actual anime. Besides, if anyone were to make any type of DBZ figures, my guess would go with Medicom or Hostile Midget. Sideshow doesn't seem like an anime type of company although they sell medicom anime figs. :lol
