Maybe somebody already asked, but... how about Frank Herbert's Dune license? There are a lot of good sources - the movie, or concept arts from Giger and Moebius, both original and creative. Or SS could just pull out something new. Lots of chances here, imho.

They could be super awesome but I get the feeling that there would be some licensing difficulties with that depending on how they designed them.

Not to mention the Dune fan base is an odd one through my own personal experience.

But yeah, who wouldn't want a 1/6 Muad'Dib Fremen fig or Weirding Module replica!
haha

I would kill for David Lynch Dune 1/6 figures! It's a holy grail for me. And can you imagine statues of something like the Guild Navigators in their tanks?

I don't remember Sting wearing a Fremer suit, he always has his black Harkonnen armor :D

Lynch based 1/6 Dune figures would be so epic.

Who knows, crazier stuff has happened.

I know Lynch wants to distance himself as far away from his Dune as possible, but I wonder if he would have any say in the licensing anyway? Is it just the DeLaurentis people who hold the rights? Has any toy company tried to acquire the rights recently? I mean, it's not like Blade Runner where the rights to the movie are all tied up, is it?

BTW, I think the design of Lynch's Dune would have been perfect for SW Episodes I-III.

I believe its DeLaurentis/Universal that own the rights to the 80s film.

The other great hurdle is: Would high-end Dune figure stuff sell enough?
I'm a fairly big Dune film nerd and even I wonder if the stuff has any sort of sales potential.

I've always found the love/hate of the Lynch movie to be evenly divided in my personal nerd circles.

You're absolutely right about that. The movie simply doesn't get enough love. Most people criticize that the storytelling is confusing and those who have read the book criticize the changes they made to the story. I personally never had a problem following it, and after I read the novel I was willing to look past the changes. I personally feel it's visually a magnificent film which tells an interesting, complex story. The movie definitely has gotten more appreciation as the years have gone by, but it hasn't reached that critical "cult" status that something like Blade Runner (another excellent movie ahead of its time) has.

I'll tell you what. If I win the lottery, I will commission the best of the best customizers out there to make a series of 1/6 Lynch Dune figures and give them to everyone on this thread! :hi5:
