DUNKEYS = Dunk + Monkey

Birth of preyBall

In the near future, the elite group who used to govern high-end information is no longer the leadership due to powerful network infrastructure.
The last means of controlling the people, sports, is not the source of fanatical interest anymore.
As a result, they are forced to revolutionize sports
People need more blood.

The first test for the new revolutionized sports is a basketball game, "preyBall".
The rules that apply are the same as the existing basketball.
The only difference is there is no winning or losing TEAM.
There is a huge amount of prize money for each goal.
The money goes to the scoring PLAYERS, not the teams.
Therefore we can't expect any teamwork or fraternity within the teams.

in addition...
Players face a self-controlled moving ball, a "preyBall", equipped with strong instincts & cruel A.I neurons.
Any player could be eaten by the "preyBall", if they are not in a defensive position.
Players need a system of self-defense to survive in games.
PreyBalls are very dangerous.
After the game starts, no one can enter or go out.

Adding to this, shooting is impossible.
The preyBalls move and run away from the players.
In the end, for the goals, there is no other way than to DUNK.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi all,
CoolRain announced his new 1/6th figure series "DUNKEYS (Dunk + Monkey)" and the story of "PreyBall".
He also has a plan to make animation and game.
Dunkeys is his first collaboration work with sEMAN 10cM in South Korea.
I'm really looking forward to seeing the all Dunkeys basketball team soon.

This kind of stuff always makes me laugh, all the Brotherworks with there specific head design are simply great an original.

Here are more his works.

It's been a while since I've posted unknown Korean artists.
This time, I'm introducing Chan Woo Lee (aka Coolrain).
He is pretty popular in Korea but still an unknown figure artist in the world.
As you may know, His figures are influenced from Michael Lau.

"Like Lau his inspiration is part street culture and part reality. If Michael has his pulse on global street culture then CoolRain's figures are closer to home and more intimate. For example photographer and journalist Kim Kyung Woo is the inspiration for the figure Woosra. His other friends are b-boys and as such are also inspirations for these stylized figures." - Noe V.

He only made 10 characters each since he has been working at his figure art since 2003.
I think his artwork will be very valuable in the near future.

Thanks,

I think you guys are reading a bit too much into this.

It's not anything I collect, but I really enjoy seeing strange, stylized stuff like this.

Whats racist about it then ? as I think Im missing it !

I believe the strained thinking goes... black people play basketball, depicting a monkey in a basketball jersey is therefore making fun of black people by comparing them to monkeys. Whereas something like the movie Space Chimps that shows monkeys in astronaut gear isn't racist because black people aren't astronauts. IMO, the racism isn't in the design so much as the people viewing it as such.

But let us give the benefit of doubt to the artist and not get off track with this line of discussion. They look great and a lot of work obviously went into them. thanks for sharing pics, zuno.

seriously ... :monkey1

way out of my price range, but I think these are pretty cool.

ANybody know anything about that BHEAD figure?

Yeah, lets not jump to conclusions about the meaning of figures. I would like to have one for my collection... but no way I can swing $650, also not much of a sports fan so it doesn't quite work for my collection.

Well...I ain't the one straining Entropy Chic.

I personally think they look cool as hell! They rock! but someone else, Galaticat or something, mentioned that there was some racial humor in it...I am simply saying if there is, its not funny and I would hope the artist didn't have that intent in mind.

but its art afterall, and one would certainly have to accept and acknowledge someone elses interpretation of said art from their life's point of view. So I don't think if someone saw that in their view of it, it would be a stretch or a strain at all. I just don't see the humor in it.
