what bothers me most is that all the news reports state "ebay asks their customers to change their passwords" and I have yet to receive notification from them

Yeah, if it hadn't been for this thread, I wouldn't have known a thing about it.

They don't. Only when you sign in they will tell you to, or if you've always signed in, you will see a notice board on top of page.

Their objective is to hack your ebay to get your email address, then they work on hacking the email address, and then hopefully some financials. No wonder i've got alert from Microsoft regarding my email being possibly compromised. Now i figure out ebay messed up.

So they don't even care about the ebay account as much as finding out your email?

they can't do much with your ebay accounts other than selling your private information. but everyone knows some sort of financial account is linked to the email account used by your ebay accounts, hence they work from there.

would save alot of time compared to hacking random emails without knowing what information is within those random accounts.

of course they can directly hack other financial accounts but that would take more time.

but knowing your personal data & having access to your email increases their chance of performing frauds, in the future.
