Hi Guys,

I've had this piece for years, since I was about 6 or so if I remember right(so 1985). It was given to my by Grandfather some years before he died but I have no idea where he got it or who made it. I've never seen another one like it and there's no production stamp or logo anywhere on it.

I was hoping some of the board members who may have more knowledge of collectibles might be able to tell me who made it and maybe more about it since all i know is hold change pretty well. It's 10" tall and about 7½" wide. Pics are below. Thanks for any help anyone can provide!

I don't have any info. but just wanted to post to say thats supercool.

There are a couple of similar boxes online but none with the same paint/glazework thats on yours.
they do all seem to come from the same mould though.

Ceramics classes were big in the 70s and 80s and a lot of classes produced unlicensed pieces from Star Wars and other popular films. I'm guessing this is something from one of those classes.

I would find it interesting if this was a one off unlicensed piece. As with the pics Rorywan put in above, it seems like the paint jobs are drastically different. I always, for some reason, figured it was store bought. It could have been a paint it yourself for all I know. Either way this is one of those things I'll probably be buried with. :)

EDIT: I found one that looks close to mine but without the bank slot at the top I'm going to ask the seller where they got it.

Okay so I posted this a while back and I wanted to thank all of you that tried to help with information and I finally found out what it is and how my Grandfather got it. So I figured I'd share since a few of you were so nice in trying to help me.

Back in the 80's, some of were absolutely correct,, Porcelain and ceramics were big. These casts were sold ready made in stores for a short period of time unpainted. This way you could take home your very own E.T. cut it how you wanted(i.e. banks or leave it whole like a bust) and then paint it in your own custom way. I'm not sure how many exist but each and everyone is hand painted by whom ever bought it so it's almost assured no two are exactly alike.

MY Grandfather bought this at an art bazaar as a gift for me in the early 80's.

Pretty cool and I'm glad I know where it comes from now.

Thanks again to all those that tried to help!
