I have had more non-paying bidders in the last two years than I had in the previous 15 years- big ticket items too. And absolutely no recourse whatsoever. ebay always touted their feedback system as the cats meow but now that they've eliminated that as a recourse for the seller maybe they are admitting their feedback system isn't really that effective or important.

I have bids on 20 of 130 items right now. Of those twenty I figure three or four will back out of the deal. It's a shame, I tell ya. A g'damn shame.

I have noticed the increase also. I actually had a buyer use Buy It Now and contact me within the hour saying he didn't want the item any more. He even asked me to cancel the transaction and I said screw you, I'm going to file a non-paying buyer claim in 4 days and then make sure you get an unpaid item strike against your account. The inability for sellers to leave negative feedback for buyers is some of the biggest bull***** ebay has ever dished out, especially with their so-called "seller protection" propoganda they are sending out to try to reassure me they are on my side. More BS!

Yes, but in the meantime you have to wait at least 8 days to cancel the transaction (4 days to file claim and 4 days once claim has been opened), the previous high bidders have probably bought the item elsewhere, and you don't get you listing fees refunded. I might ask why would someone actively bid on an item if they had no intention of paying?

Did the customers have less than 10 feedback? I find that most, about 95%, of them who back out of the deal, or don't reply to the messages, are people with less than 10 feedback. In my case, about 70% didn't have any feedback, 25% with less than 10, and 5% with more than 10. People who have a 100 feedback will most likely pay you, for me about 99% pay me when they have 100 or more feedback.

It really bugs me that they don't pay and all you can do is give them a strike on ebay. I think ebay should ban them for a month with one strike. 2 strikes-3 months, for 3 strikes-6 months and 4 strikes-YOUR OUT, BAN!!!

I know it says 8 days to give the person a strike, meanwhile your item lies waiting... When they don't pay, or respond to messages and have less than 10 feedback...I put the thing up on auction again. I don't wait for the 8 days.

I know how your feeling. I have been there many, many, many times.

There are for reasons for this crap

1) eBay let's any ******* create an account without requiring enough information (credit security, proof of funding etc.)

2) some of the people bidding up items are actually sellers selling the same item on a buy it now amount. They do this so that they inflate the demand and people buy their overpriced item at a "bargain"

3) eBay is to cheap to install and maintain a security system that would allow them to track *******s who create accounts specifically to screw people over by bidding up items in an effort to make someone overspend/waste their money. When they end up winning they don't pay and delete their account. Like kids playing games... eBay needs to track/monitor this stuff more closely. I really dont understand why they don't because this activity undermines their system and business model and will cause sellers to defect to other outlets/internet auction.

4) eBay should be required to pay a % of the final bid price when buyers do not pay. Maybe a direct financial penalty to them would push them to do more about this.

For the record, I am not an eBay seller, but I am a buyer and I hate these *******s too. They cost buyers money as well playing these "games". When I see someone with less then 10 feedback or more then 3000 bidding up an item like crazy, I get real skeptical now and bail the **** out.
