That's great to hear that they're coming back but I canceled my subscription before they shut down. I don't have any gaming mag subscriptions right now but EGM was one of the better ones.

I used to love EGM and Gamepro as a kid, but honestly, with the internet, I don't feel much need for a physical magazine previewing and reviewing video games anymore.

That's awesome, but I no longer buy video game magazines. I won't have a problem reading it at Barnes and Noble though. I used to collect them when I was younger and had a 4 years worth of magazines on my shelf.

Thats impressive. I had only year and a half worths of guitar magazines and that took up too much space and I had to get rid of them.

I have a backlog of EGM issues dating from 1995 to the very final issue before the layoffs.

While EGM was still alive, it was the only magazine subscription I had and paid for year after year. Sure, getting information on the internet might be faster and more convenient nowadays, but it lacks the journalism side of the equation and possibly integrity.

I continued to read EGM because I had grown fond of the writers and editors on staff, even as the new ones were being introduced and the veteran editors leaving to go onto different things. EGM also took a staunch stance on game company and journo relations by stating up front that P.R. interference was barred from their reviews and editorials. If any of you remember the Gamespot Kane and Lynch review debacle a couple years ago, then you know how easy and subversive corporate persuasion could be behind the reviews and previews you read.

EGM was free from that because of its handlers and because of its editors-in-chief. Having Dan Hsu spear-heading the new EGM revival is great news. I won't subscribe immediately, but if I like the first issue enough, it won't be long until I'm on the mailing list.

yeah this was pretty much the only gaming magazine I read every month back then. Most of my friends had Nintendo Power subscriptions, but I had this.

I still had about 3 free years before they stoped. I guess I won't be getting those back.

I hate digital issues. I don't want to read at my computer I want to read while I'm having breakfast or sitting on the couch.

Print is dead.

This isn't 1995 anymore, I don;t need to wait for that next issue of GamePro or Nintendo Power in my mailbox to get the latest news. All I do is hit up IGN, Kotaku, or one of the other gaming resources on the net for minute to minute news.

I wouldn't go as far as say print is dead. Granted online gaming sites are more accessible for people with computers but even today not everyone has a computer.

I'll admit too that even though IGN, GameSpot and a couple other sites are my main source for gaming news, it was still nice to get a gaming mag in the mail every month.

Print won't be dead for a while longer.

What print mags get that the internet doesn't is exclusives reviews. The last 2 issues of Xbox Magazine had exclusive reviews for big games. Sometimes they even get exclusive announcements for games. I don't know of any internet site that has enough pull to get a full exclusive like the mags do.

Damn.. I just NOW found out that EGM is back. :slap

I had about 6 or 7 issues left when they stopped. You should've gotten the same thing I did: Your remaining issues filled by another magazine (for me it was Maxim).

I always read EGM because I liked the writing. Not because I was waiting around for "the latest news" in the video game world.

I haven't yet been able to read one of the new issues, but I've been keeping track of EGM's digital magazine online, called EGMi. They have samples of their new issues: https://www.egmnow.com/egmi/238-5/

It's very cool how they designed the digital magazine. It's like the pages of the printed mag but animated and with embedded videos. I really like the layout. If I had an iPad, I would totally pay money to be able to read this on the go.
