Hi,

l did a repaint on the face and hands of my Sideshow Jason part 4 figure with vallejo and andrea acrylics, but the paint came off (a few scratches on the skin colors after putting on and removing the hockey mask) The paint had dried good like normal, and l didn't had these problems before (I repainted my Sideshow Jason part 2 without problems)

Can l solve this problem by giving the head and hands a coat of varnish? Any other ideas? Or do l need to remove the paint? :monkey2

I did not primed it, but gave it a slight sanding, the sideshow paint was flat and acrylics adhere well to it (l thought)......

Frans.

Re: Paint comes off, advise needed...

You can use sealers like Testors dullcote or varnishes to make them more durable, but even with that, acrylic paints just aren't as durable as the factory stuff that companies like Sideshow or Hot Toys use.

Removing the original paint before painting is always good to do, I use Isopropyl Alcohol or you can always prime it, like I do also.

After painting, whatever paint you use you'll definitely need to spray on some paint protective coating. Like Testor's Dull Coat.

Vallejo's paints are awesome, but it does indeed needs to be protected.

@TheObsoleteMan: thx for your reply! l'm glad l don't handle my figures much, but l'll make sure l remove the paint next time and prime it to be sure.

As long as it's not a "gloss" sealer, you'll make the headsculpt shine with it and that's not the idea. You'll need a dull coat or matte finish.

I guess that the Mr. Super Clear Flat from Gunze could also work as it is a flat sealer, but personally I haven't used it.

Even Testors dullcoat didn't help, so l removed all paint to make a new start.....Wich primer and sealpaint do you use? And do you use spraycans, airbrush, or pensel?

Re: Paint comes off, advise needed...

best bet is use a primer for a car anyone will do..i normally use grey and to seal it i use plasti-kote flat sealer in a can. also lightly sand the surface of the hands so the primer has sumthin to hold onto as for the face the removal oand wash with soapy water should be fine.then jus primer it let it dry properly and away u go. hope that helps buddy. any oither questions fel free to pm me if yah get stuck

Re: Paint comes off, advise needed...

Just don't use this sealer. It says matte finish, but it's glossy and I ruined a friend's repaint by using this with just a thin coat
