I'm new to collecting the LOTR 12 inch figures and obviously I've missed all the exclsuives. With the Star Wars line I've felt that the accsesories while cool to have, won't detract from the overall figure, in other words it won't kill me that I don't have an exclusive gun with a luke Skywalker, same with Obi-wan, it's just a gun (even if it is Grievous' gun).

On the flip side I am a little let down that the exclusive piece on Legolas and Boromir is the Elven cloak. I think the cloak is an essential part of these figures as it symbolizes the fellowships quest. The Aragon is also bothering me as I think the Cloak is also essential to the Strider character. The pipe I don't mind as much as it's just a small piece but the cloak really hurts. I guess I'm just a little irked that I wil now have to go on Ebay and pay 100$ for a cloak and a pipe, which is of course my choice but I just wish the exclusive wasn't something so essential to these characters.

The problem here is that it's virtually impossible to include an exclsuive that is both cool AND non-essential. Anyone have any ideas as to what could have been cool AND non-essential items?

I'm not in favor of the Elven Cloak being the exclusive by anymeans. I want my Strider to have one so when Legolas ships I'm gonna have to go buy another for him.

I agree with you, there. Shame about the inconsistency with the Elven cloaks. At the same time, I'd rather have Boromir's regular cloak. Having eight figures all wearing the same cape doesn't really appeal to my desire for variety within each line.

I'd like to see custom bases as exclusive accessories - not everyone even uses bases so people won't be too put out - but it does make a figure "unique" in one respect. It can also help complete a particular incarnation of a character.

That'd be wonderful! I'd love to see more scenic bases!! That'd be a wonderful alternative to "the exclsuive accessory."

I am not one to repaint or try to customize figures since I am not much of an artist, but The LOTR exclusives presented a unique opportunity. I ordered two of the Boromir Exclusives, asking my fiance to order one to get the pair. I figure the exclusive cloak could go to strider, as well as the vambraces, and then I may try my hand at a repaint by making a dead boromir figure. Or maybe I'll chicken out and call on your services Mikey!

I don't mind them all having the Elven Cloak. Its the design I've wanted since the SSW days.

Ooh, now that would be fun to try.... But subtle, you know? No weird gray skinned zombie business. Eyes out of focus, ashen skin...

Might be a real challenge, especially with the concentrated look of the sculpt.

Different bases sound like a good idea although at this point it's something I don't think Sideshow would do and to an extent helps with the uniformity of the line having matching bases. As an alternative to something as essential as the elven cloak, could Aragorn maybe have gotten the pipe and the torch he nails the ringwraith with at the end of weathertop? or maybe some apples to throw at Pippin?:lol

Too bad we'll probably never get that. :monkey2

I think we need an accessoy/expansion pack that includes Boromir's regular cloak and Aragorn's Lothlorian cloak. Some extra bits here and there, a severed head, etc.

That would be most welcomed.

I would definitely buy something like that.

I'd love that. Unfortunately clothing expansion packs have not sold well historically.

They would also need to include the Lothlorien Bow, Arrows and Quiver for Legolas as well. Also the Elven knife given to Aragorn with Scabbard would be cool to.

Why not also include a few other things like some loafs of Lembas bread.

:drool :drool :drool
Lembas bread.

I'm sure if they put a good mix of clothing and accesories people would buy it. It would be the best way to give us Boromir's black cloak, Aragorn's elven cloak, knife, and his own vambrances, and Legolas' elven bow, arrows, and quiver. Add some nice bases or statues or something that you can display, and it will become a nice item worth investing in. LOTR is a big enough franchise to make enough from an accesory pack without fear of it flopping--if they do it well, of course.
