The only reason to change an ethnicity that goes completely against the known history and physical appearance of the character is to cater to a demographic. Saying otherwise is horseshit, otherwise, there'd be no need to change it.

Unless the entire post is chock full of spelling/grammatical issues (like wez's), when some idiot does that to me I know I've won the argument, because that's all they've got. :lol

or, you know, it's a attention-grab publicity stunt.

REgardless, it's likely it's not gonna matter in the long run.

This IS fox we're talking about. so its highly likely this film is gonna be a pail of fail.

Man...Spider-Man, the X-Men, and the Fantastic Four. What heavy hitters to lose. Thank God they got the Hulk back and that nobody wanted to touch Captain America back when they were cleaning house.

Agreed. Though he never had their popularity with the mainstream, in my mind, Cap was a cornerstone of the Marvel Universe even as a kid. If they lost Spidey and Cap, I'm not sure the Marvel U would feel totally complete in my mind because those two are, in my mind, lynch pins. Hulk is a distant 3rd. But despite Spidey's absence, and that of the X-Men, Marvel Studios U feels totally sufficient to me. That rotating camera shot of the Avengers would feel cheap and incomplete if Cap wasn't there.

Yeah, any true Marvel "universe" in my mind would have to have the complete Avengers to be legit. Because any massive world threatening conflict would always beg the question, "Where are the Avengers? Why haven't they shown up?" Spidey, the X-Men, and even the FF can always be assumed to be off doing their own thing. But no Avengers for some reason means no Marvel Universe to me. For that reason Spider-Man, the X-Men, and the FF on screen feel like little unofficial pocket universes where only they exist while the MCU is the true comic universe.

That's for sure!

:goodpost: It would have definitely felt odd if Cap was absent, IMO.

Well I'm not sure if the FF or Avengers have battled more world threatening enemies over the course of their respective comics, because that was the MO for both really. But I agree that Spidey is OK being left out, because historically (prior to the last 10 years or so anyway), Spidey was a rogue superhero, with his own rogue's gallery, and was either unable or unwilling to join in with others. He had JJJ treating him as an outlaw, and a lot of the public never really seemed to get behind him, unlike the FF and Avengers. X-Men is similar. They are a rogue outfit, often treated with fear and skepticism not only by the public, but government entities.

My own feeling is that the FF fit totally into the Marvel Studios-verse, because they are like the Avengers in many ways--how the public perceives them, the kinds of enemies they face, their motivations for doing what they do, etc. So it's too bad that we can't see more of that interaction, but Spidey and X-Men being left out feels totally appropriate, though obviously the world would be richer if they were there.

I know that both the Avengers and FF deal with world threats but in my mind (rightly or wrongly) the FF's main foes are Galactus and Dr. Doom and the Avengers main foes are: everyone else. So as long as Galactus and Doom don't appear then the Avengers feel like the default superteam to deal with whatever threat. Even though they're a "new" team I look forward to seeing how the GotG interact with the Avengers on screen.

The Fantastic Four had to deal with various enemies from the Negative Zone like Annihilus, and seemed constantly in space--much moreso than the Avengers. The Skrulls, Kree, and Adam Warlock first appeared in their comics, they interacted with guys like the Inhumans on the moon and Ego the Living Planet, Terminus, then of course there is Galactus and his heralds.

It's kind of funny that the Avengers don't have that many iconic villains of their own. Beyond Ultron and Kang, and guys who are primarily enemies of others (Loki, Doom, Norman Osborne), I'm not sure how many non comic readers would be familiar with. Spidey, the X-Men, and FF certainly have the more noteworthy villains.

I would add Thanos to that list.

In the comics Thanos primarily interacts with galactic characters like Adam Warlock and Silver Surfer, not the Avengers. Or at least, that was the case back in the day. Sure, he ran across them a few times, but I wouldn't say he is primarily an Avengers enemy.

Should we assume that Marvel Studios still owns Adam Warlock then? Not that I care to see him on screen, I'm just curious. I think if Thanos were considered to be a Silver Surfer villain then he'd be owned by Fox right now.

Everybody knows that. And the Hulk wasn't always green. Doesn't mean that the original is accepted status quo. Technically Captain America and Bucky went on to fight Koreans and Russians after WWII but nobody counts that anymore either.

I don't even consider the Hulk as an Avenger

I'm sure if all we'd gotten was IM, Hulk and Thor, Avengers would've worked out well enough. It's great that we're getting Cap, but had they sold him off, I think people would be doing exactly what people're doing now, wishing Spider-Man and X-men were back at Marvel.

Alot of people think there's an easter egg in Thor 2 referencing him.

Nobody was talking about what you thought the "masses" would accept, we were simply stating our appreciation that Cap is indeed a part of the current MCU. :) As far as the masses are concerned they probably assume that Spidey and the X-Men ARE back at Marvel anyway due to the common logo that all the films share.
