Seriously, what's the deal? Why so much interest in faux bronze these days? Every collectible company is trying to pimp this fad- it's kind of annoying and at this point completely unoriginal. :monkey1

Seems every newsletter has a new Faux bronze piece that is limited to 50 or so. It's just becoming a regular line now. Nothing special.

And doesn't sell once you buy one. :lecture :lol

My guess at this point is that it's a part of the regular planning process. It seems to have become just another color option instead of something unique.

They are pretty lame... but I guess if its what the people want who am I too judge.'

Although I do think the Universal Monsters Dio's are prety cool in B&W.

I have zero interest in faux-bronze. But the Monster dio's are pretty cool in B&W.

Agreed, I don't care for the FB treatment either. I think the bronze color in general is just ugly. The SSE edition at least make complete sense since it makes the piece screen accurate...

Yeah, I think it's a dumb fad too. I mean, when something is really Bronze... it makes sense. But to make a statue bronze just to make it bronze makes no sense. Especially if it's plastic or polystone. I just don't get the appeal at all.

SSE is different, as it's meant to give it screen accuracy.

I agree.

This goes right in with bobble-heads, super deformed figures and Star Wars Shadow-Everything on the list of collectible fads that I just do not get. :huh

The Silver Screen Edition (B&W) classic horror stuff is different, though. Those might actually make even more sense than their color counterparts. Faux Bronze is just lame all around, imho.

It is a gimmick but I like the 2 Star Wars ones I have... although I did pass on Padme. For the most part the "regular" ones do look better but its nice to have something a little different in your collection sometimes too.

I like some Faux Bronze...it has a museum look and a very adult appeal IMHO. It looks like something that might be legitimately on display in an art collection. I don't agree with everything being in Faux Bronze but some of the piece it has a nice touch and flare to it.

I think a distinction needs to be made between the SS FB and the Boween FB. With SS, it just looks like a can of bronze spray paint with a black wash. At least with the Bowen pieces, there is some color variation, and I really do like my Bowen FB pieces.

Can't seem to get rid of the 2 SW PB SS pieces I have.

Totally agree about the bowen faux bronzes.

To me, it seems overdone in that pieces it's applied to often don't seem ideal for that format.

To me, bronze sculptures that work well are designed to use the medium and lack of color. A lot of pieces that are normal style that get the bronzed treatment, to me, looks like subpar renditions of the original piece. If the appearance was stronger in the FB format, I wouldn't feel like it's an overdone "fad" sort of thing, but when it seems like almost any piece can get it and often look lesser because of it, then it's an overdone gimmick.

A good example, the bronze Darth Vader statue was made for that purpose and works great in the medium. To me, the Duel of the Fates dio is about the look of the moment from the film. The poses aren't as interesting visually when all you have are the raw figures. Not saying the dio is bad sculpturally, just that the sculpts don't work on a purely scultpural level. It's a combination of the paint applications and the sculpts that make it sing.
