I'm a relatively new collector, been collecting action figures for a year or so, and Hot Toys figures for less than a year. My question is this:

You have a figure on order, and you're very anxious to get it. You wait, and you wait, and you wait, and the anxiety builds.

Then it arrives. Relief. Excitement. Joy. You unbox it, tinker with it, and finally you put it in it's place in your collection.

How long is it from that point until the anxiety for the NEXT figure has completely replaced the anxiety from the last?

If you've got 4-5 figures on pre-order, that's different. But let's say you don't have anything on preorder? Do you start just itching to buy something, anything?

I'm already feeling all of this (guess I'm hooked) and I think it's pretty interesting. So I thought I'd post about it and see where it goes.

Once it's displayed, I'm already itching. The bad thing that comes out of it is me purchasing figures that I don't really like just because he next PO is months away.

I dont remember the last time I DIDNT have something on Pre-order.

As soon as my PO list starts to get down to 1-2 figures, Then the next big announcement happens and Im back at 3,4,5 etc etc.

As for the excitement, It varies from figure to figure. But one constant with every release is the excitement peaks once its "Released/Shipped" and waiting for it in the mail, the unboxing, the futzing, displaying is all good. Id say it takes about a week to two weeks before the "giddyness" dies down. But again, that varies from figure to figure.

I just started collecting but I know what you mean. The last thing I got was last month and I'm already waiting for my next arrival, which, sadly, won't be until January (if I'm to believe the shipping schedule). Until then, the forums hold me over and seeing what other people have gotten recently.

To quote a wise Vulcan, "You may find that having is not so pleasing a thing after all as wanting. It is not logical, but it is often true."

I find the waning it is the best part. As soon as i get the collectable unbox it, im over it. Its ashame really.

Although ive yet to get a high end figure like hot toys yet

My family says it's an awful lot of money to pay for a short term buzz of excitement

I try to buy collectibles now that i know i'll continue to get that feeling from, though not as potent as the first time though. :lol

I buy my figures because I enjoy them on display. I never get anxious and never get bored. I budget for around a figure per month, and the list of things I deprive myself of is so long I never find myself at a loss as to what I can spend my toy money on.

Usually my excitment wears off within 2 hours of unboxing.

Unless the piece is really impressive. Human figures are starting to impress me less everytime. Dosen't mean i don't like it... but it dosen't have that WOW factor for me anymore. (Samurai Predator was the last one that did... impressed me for a whole 2 weeks)

I also don't remember the last time i didn't have anything on pre-order. So its always, unbox, admire and pose for an hour or two, display it, then start waiting for the next piece.

Well, I bought New Goblin today during the SS Black Friday sale, and he along with Batman DX12 AND Hawkeye (from Toy Anxiety) ALL shipped today.

I guess my addiction is fed.

For now.

First post - Relatively new (or on hiatus) to 1/6 collecting, but my HT Rambo and HT Pred look amazing two years later. It's been awhile since I bought a real, boxed figure that wasn't used for bashing or customs, but I can't not look at this site, or OSW without wanting to order anything that peaks the interest. So addictive once you start, or start again.

That's why I like custom projects it delays the satisfaction and can rekindle love for something when it's upgraded. Sad to say a straight out of the box hot you or something of the like wears off in its excitement factor as soon as I unbox it.

For me the thrill of owning a figure and seeing it on display usually lasts a couple weeks before I suddenly feel the need to buy or preorder something new.

Although lately, either because my shelves are already full or because I'm just getting a bit burnt out on it, that addiction isn't feeling nearly as strong. I'm sure in many ways that's a good and healthy thing (especially for my wallet!)... but I do kinda miss feeling that hunger and need to collect.
