Hi,
I'm not sure if this is the right forum, but since it concerns customs and kitbashing, I thought I'd give it a go and ask advice here...
I'm just getting into kit-bashing and custom figure making and I'm having the most elementary of problems - I can't get my figures to wear their shoes!
I'm working with a Hot Toys True-Type. I ordered a 1/6 business suit (making a kitbash Bruce Wayne), which fits pretty well for the most part. The thing is, it comes with these brown dress shoes. They're hollow - so unlike shoes that come with other figures, like Harvey Dent and the Joker, the shoes aren't solid, with a ball joint for the peg. Rather, it's just a hollow, rubber shoe, for a foot to be placed inside.
Unfortunately, my Hot Toys bare feet won't fit inside the shoe. I can jam it in about halfway, but I can't fit the heel inside the shoe - so the foot is sticking out halfway (and at a 45 degree angle!). Additionally, I fear that the foot may be too wide at about the point where the toes meet the rest of the foot (on a hinge).
I've tried using a hair-dryer to warm up the foot and shoe, but that doesn't seem to help.
I know this must be a common issue because I've acquired a bunch of 1/6 scale shoes and boots, without ball joints or anything - they're all hollow, so something (i.e., a foot) has to slip inside of it so that it can be part of a 1/6 figure.
I also tried stuffing the shoe with styrofoam and sticking the Hot Toys leg/foot peg into the shoe, but that does not provide enough rigidity for the figure to stand balanced and stable. (I've also had a hell of a time getting the styrofoam back out!)
So what do you guys do? How do you use your hollow shoes and boots when attaching them to figures? Is there a special method I should be using - or is there another kind of bare foot I should look around for?
Any advice would help. Thanks!
