Well, it's actually my second since the first was a half a head where I practiced a little. Check out the pictures below. It's not finished. I'm doing the eyes tomorrow and will take pictures in natural light when done. Also, I think I need to re-do the eyebrows. They don't match the hair. Anyway, check it out and feedback is welcome!

By the way, I don't know who this head sculpt is of. My local collectibles shop had a couple of this heads and I just bought it to practice. The owner of the shop said he had bought a bunch of resin heads and parts from a local sculptor who designs for some company, but he wouldn't tell me for who.

That looks good! I'd maybe ink the crease where his lips meet and then, yeah, darken the eye-brows.

Thanks for posting that link. I've heard people talk about using pastels but I've never known what they're talking about.

Thats your first/second attempt? I'd say you're well on your way! It looks really good especially the 5 o'clock shadow, looks very natural.

The beauty of chalk pastels is that they allow you to punch in a little or a lot of depth into the darker areas. Be careful though, some colors darken or lighten after clear coating. Experiment until you find the ones that you are most happy with. Also, research the subject. Heck, look at your own face in a mirror. here are a lot of pinks, purple & blues. Just look at your eye lids, ear color, around the nose etc

Comm, your work is great. Continue on. Lhere is always something new to learn each time

OK, here's an update and I'm not too happy with the eyes. I guess they are ok for being my first attempt at painting eyes. Also, this is not a really good sculpt, so don't pay attention to the right eye. The right eye had bumps and it was a pain in the butt drawing a circle with the .05 mechanical pencil. Also, I don't know if you can notice it, but there's a hole between the right eye and the nose, under the eyebrow, probably caused by a bubble during the casting process of the resin. My next attempt will be with a nice head sculpt so I won't have any excuses! LOL! I'm sure things will improve with practice and experimenting.
Thanks for the support and advice!

I'd say that for your first/second attempt it is very good.

Awesome first attempt, gradient shades on the skin, detail in the eye.

Love to see someone recognisable in your next attempt, to make a better comparison

dude I think it looks dang good.. and for those little airbubbles just rub some elmers wood putty into it let dry for an hour then paint over it.. real easy for those annoying bubbles.. just rub it in then wipe off..with your finger..

Good stuff commtech, turned out nicely and you're only going to get better with more practise. My only suggestion at this stage is regarding the hair line ..try and blend over some flesh tone where the hair color and skin come together. That should give a bit more of a smoother look between tones. You are off to a great start :)

Thanks everyone for the kind words! I will take the advice on the hair blending with the skin, the bubble advice and all other advice. Thanks!

That looks awesome, Commtech! The eyework and the touch up on the brows are fantastic! Looking forward to seeing what's next!
