I was planning on watching it, but I went to the panel at SDCC and the SciFi executive said they wanted something fun that would appeal to the same audience as SG-1. Which in my mind means more dumbed down. So I might watch a couple, but I don't have high hopes.

I'm going to check it out. It'll probably just remind me how much I miss BSG. :monkey2

Meant to check out the panel for this on Sunday but was too burned out after preview night and 3 full days at the comic con. I can see the actors in their rolls, so that looks ok so far, just not really sure why the logo for the show has the DC Flash lightning bolt symbol in there. They have absolutely nothing to do with each other.

I've got a few of the collected comic strip hardbacks and have the Flash Gordon movie of the 80's in my top 20 list, really not sure where they are going to go with the show....SciFi has a bad track record of all non SG-1 shows of keeping them on the air.

I've been reading about this series in press here in the U.K and the thing which doesn't fill me with confidence is the fact that it will feature "alternate universes" and "wormholes" rather than rocket ships ! Er, excuse me , FLASH GORDON WITH NO ROCKET SHIPS!!!!! That's like making a Jaws T.V show with no damn shark!!! Also , Ming the Merciless looks like a young Willem Dafoe with long(ish) blonde hair and no mustache/beard . Oh yeah and Flash is a slacker who lives with his Mother . Seriously.

SCI-FI's "resurrected" shows are all about changing up the original...that's how Battlestar Galactica got so popular.

Of course, Flash Gordon was WAY before my time (I was born in '83) but I know of its influence and saw the 80's film on TV sometime with the QUEEN theme. :rock

All I can say....I don't know a thing about this Baylin character.....BUT SHE IS HOT!!! :rock :rock :rock

And Ming looks more like Duke Atreides from SCI-FI's DUNE remake than he does look like Ming.

Raped again. Will they ever stop messing around with the classics and come up with an original idea for a change?

Anyone Seen The new Flash Gordon Series?

It's probably the worst pile of piddly dog sh*t that I have watched! I was quite excited to see that they were making a new series, I thought they could go wild with it, costumes, sets, hammy acting, ming the merciless, pure fun.

Instead we have a lazy soap opera, hardly any effects, ming the absolutely crappy, terrible set design, crappy costumes and a budget of approx 4 cents. I've heard of petitions where people fight to keep their favorite shows but I would gladly sign one to get this show taken off air immediately. It's a *****in' insult to the original Black and White series and to the fantastic movie from the 80's.

I hope that when Stephen Sommers does the new Flash Gordon movie he realises that its about having 24 hours to save the earth and lots of fun along the way!!!

I was watching that yesterday, piece of crap. If they wanted to save some money and get lots of viewers they should have made it more like the original. They should have made it like a comic book type thing like it used to be instead of a boring scifi show.

I sat through the first hour of the first episode... :monkey4

When they were showing the preview ads, they played the awesome Queen soundtrack from the movie, so I was expecting that same sort of over the top cheesey fun from this new series... I couldn't have been more wrong.

I was actually in the process of developing a Flash Gordon revival that sounded very much like this. Can't call it plaigerism, as I never told anyone ... except ... my girlfriend ...

Honey? Is there something you'd like to tell me...? :emperor

I would have to say as a fan of Flash Gordon I was thoroughly disappointed with this new version of Flash. I was expecting something similar to Battlestar considering the people who did BSG are doing this.
Boy was I wrong.
The pilot felt like an episode of Smallville were Clark goes to the Phantom Zone to fight evil alien criminals. Instead we have Flash Gordon(Eric Johnson who used to be on Smallville) going to Mongo to fight the evil Emperor Ming who was more like Gordan Gekko then the evil tyrant from Saturday matinees.

The fact that Flash enters the planet Mongo through worm holes not space travel really turned me off. The non-conventional Hans Zarkov was a very unlikable character and the fact that you get the feeling that a majority of the series will take place on Earth instead of on Mongo screamed CHEAP.

Well, we always have the Filmation cartoons from the late 70's and early 80's which is in my opinion the most accurate version of Flash Gordon to date.

Plus Doctor Who comes on the same night as this attrosity and he never lets me down.

To think they cancelled the Dresden Files for this drek...:banghead the pilot was terrible and I watched about 10 minutes of the second episode and was forced to turn it off in disgust...it may be one of the worst shows I've ever seen. Its too bad, the actors playing Flash and Dale are ok but Ming and Zarkov are plain bad.

I know SciFi Channel is the King of Corn but come on :monkey2
