My "got it" from childhood remains GI Joe issue 1. My first comic book was issue 33, and I quickly started collecting right after that. My neighbor, who was admittedly my best friend during my childhood started collecting comics when I did. He always had everything he wanted. Even though he was Jewish, the family celebrated Christmas and he always had every single action figure and play set. Everything! At times, it was a bit discouraging, because my family was of lesser means. So our comic shop of choice was called Trilogy, and there were three of them in town. Go figure. We had visited one of the more distant locations with his mom, and saw the issue 1. He planned to go back and get it, but I had other plans. On the ride home, I devised my evil scheme. I called my mother at work, and somehow, someway, convinced her to go buy the $20 comic book for me. I'm sure I promised a multitude of chores, grass cutting, dishes, vacuuming, etc. Whatever I promised, worked. Because my mom was wonderful that day, and went to the shop, which was kind of on her way home, and got me my GI Joe issue 1!
And, I still have that comic! 30 years later. It is priceless to me.
