Ok so last night I was watching my Eagles play their final preseason game. They then turned the camera to a receiver that had red eyes. They pointed out that this was due to new contacts by Nike. They are made to lower glare and enhance the vision in a way that makes it easier for them to catch the football. I ask you is this cheating? I'm on the fence about it. I mean I can understand the black stips they wear under their eyes to help with glare but they are not altering the way that they see. Anyways here is a link to the video about the product. Let me know what you guys think. Enjoy!

LAME.... i can only imagine this now...and the EAGLES have to call a timeout so the receiver can find his contract.

~~i dont know about cheating, but definitely weak sauce to the 10th power. what happened to just using the visors??

If everyone can use them then who cares. If the Eagles have some exclusive contract then maybe it would be wrong.

Yeah I don't know. Apparently it is just not the Eagles though. Mind you it was only one guy and he was a rookie tight end. They did say that people all over the league are starting to wear these. If you can't use steriods why can you use these. I know it may be a bit of a stretch but if you can't see heck you couldn't even play a sport. You can be weak and still play I guess is my point. Again I just don't know how I feel about this.

I don't know call me old fasioned but there is something to be said for a sport to just be a sport. All of this technology is starting to make it less of a sport.

How is this different then the black stuff unfer they eyes. At first it was nothing, period. Then it was black stuff, then it was stickers not the stuff, now it contacts. It just advancement in technology. I would say take the radio out of the QB helmet before worring about this.

The black strips weren't enhancing their vision they were cutting down glare. I would say anything that you do to your body to enhance it other than working out and stuff is kinda on the verge of cheating. I am with you on the QB mic as well. We are evolving as a society so much so that a person can pretty soon have computers implanted in their eyes to make them more efficient in sports. I just don't know where I draw the line yet. I just find it interesting.

Well wouldnt any type of contacts, glasses or lassik be enhancing the vision an on the verge of cheating? Seriously I mean you want old school lets go old school , no gloves leather helmets, very little pads, no braces, tape jobs etc..

No certainly not. I don't think you are getting what I'm saying. Contacts and glasses as well as lasik are meant to make your eyes normal. That is see 20/20 as expected. These particular brand of contacts makes your eyes see something that they ordinarily wouldn't. That's all I'm saying. I know that there are leg prosthetics out there that make you run faster than using your normal legs. Hence why they aren't allowed in the Olympic games.

That's just it...it's not about sport anymore...Since it went fully professional, it's all about the $$$...Contracts and sponsors and TV baby!..:monkey4.

It's just another way for Nike and Co. to get their name out there.

What will be sad, is when junior high kids start wearing them.

Let me set the record straight. Players have been using these red contacts for at least a couple years. At first I thought it was some silly form of intimidation until I talked to a couple of the players about it. This is in no way shape or form cheating! These contacts are available to every athlete out there but I've only seen WR's and DB's use them. Is it cheating that the WR's wear gloves? Is it cheating that most players have stick-em on these gloves? You can't even begin to imagine how strict the NFL is about things like this. If they thought it was giving someone an unfair advantage, it would be banned in a heart beat.

Comparing these to steroids is one of the stupidest things I've ever read.

And as far as the radios in QB helmets, please don't talk about something that you don't know about. There is a small window where that radio is open after each play. The play call has to be into the QB something like 10-15 seconds after the previous play and then you can't communicate with them. I have a feeling you guys think a coach can talk to him pre snap or even after the snap and it's absolutely not true. The radios are one way and can only be used to get plays to the QB (not to mention there is a league official who monitors the radio calls for each team). Trust me, there's no advantage other than it allows for a faster pace of the game which we all love. I do the headsets and coach to QB radios for every Raven's home game so I kinda know what I'm talking about here.

Well putting stickum on the hands or gloves is cheating and its in the rules, but its rarely enforced or challenged.

As for the radios i brought it up as a point about technology that is used in the game but isn't cheating. I do still believe that it is an unfair advantage to the offense but its being looked at for the Defense to have one helmet radio too. But then again why am I surprised everything the NFL is geared to give the offense an advantage. The NFL would rather see basketball scores then a good defensive game. That is the one thing I hate about the average sports fan all they care about it scoring thats it.

if you cared about scoring you would have got some at SDCC. :rotfl:rotfl:monkey5

Don't see a real issue with this. Hell, Professional Athletes (especially in baseball) have been getting Lasik for years to improve their vision beyond 20/20 and yes this is possible and does work.

I had lasik and my vision is now 20/15. I never expected that, but I'm sure as hell not complaining.

Mark, I can't disagree with you about the offense in the NFL right now. There have been a lot of rule changes to benefit offense in the past few years. Being a Baltimore fan, I haven't really seen it affect us too much

Lets hope so! I go on Wednesday to have mine done. :D

I was waiting on you to chime in to share your thoughts. I didn't know that these have been around for so long. I also never said they were in fact cheating. My point is how far are we going to allow this stuff in sports until it takes the actual humanity out of the sport. Thats all. I don't think we are there yet but this is the type of stuff that could start it. As for the radios, your the reason they don't work half the time huh??? JK/
