Gentle Giant Redeemed!!! - Jedi Luke Mini Bust Pictures

Well, after the Obi-Wan fiasco, I thought people might enjoy seeing that there is still hope from Gentle Giant. I received my Jedi Luke mini bust today, and I am very pleased (I was actually chanting "please be good, please be good" as I pulled the box out of the shipping package and slipped the styrofoam out.). The paint apps are the type of quality you'd expect from GG, it's hard to tell in some lighting, but there are highlights painted into the hair, the folds in the clothing and glove are done very well. The biggest highlight for me is that they fixed his lightsaber between prototype and production. I don't know if anyone picked up on it, but the part where his lightaber hung from his belt was sculpted like the bottom of ROTS Obi-Wan's saber, but as you can see in my close up, they fixed it to be like Luke's, big kudos to them for making that move. At this rate, late March / early April is going to become Jedi Luke time (last year at this time we got Sideshow's Jedi Luke, now we just need a PF next year to keep it going ).

I really hope the Obi Wan ANH mini bust turns out to be as good at the proto makes it look.

GG appears to have hit that one out of the park and I don't think Obi Wan fans will take kindly to two disappointments.

He still looks like a Jedi proctologist to me, and it could be the photo but it appears he has wonky eye too.

Yeah, I don't know what's with these uninspiring poses lately. That ANH Leia looks like she's posing reluctantly for a photo, almost angry.

Luke looks like he has an eating disorder. Maybe he should call Nicole Ritchie. Nothing can redeem GG after that Obi-Wan disaster. Even Sideshow's looked better than that.

Looks ok. The eyes need to be repainted though.

Looks alright to me. Not the best from GG I've seen but far from the worst. If it wasn't for the pose I'd consider getting this.

He's not the only one. Jason posted a similar thing on Most Wanted Collectibles a few weeks ago when this whole fiasco started.

I might pick one up for $20 in a year or so.

Well, even if this bust isn't to your liking, I'm happy that I got what I expected to get from the preorder, and as I said, they even fixed the lightsaber, which to me is a positive after Obi-Wan's big negative, like I said before, these guys are becoming a big coin toss, luckily this one ended up on the right side, now hopefully ANH Ben will too.

This will probably draw the Medi-knights out in full force (peace my friends ... I bought a ROTJ Vader .. so I guess that makes me slightly Medi), but that GG piece is 100% better than the Medicom Jedi Luke head. Now, it's not as good as GG Jedi Luke. However, I can still see Mark Hammill in the GG bust. Medicom's sculpt looks NOTHING like Mark.

Wow, I wasn't looking to stir up debate or conflict, I was just trying to give people that liked collecting the GG products some hope that not every piece from now on will become a flop from the prototype, Mark Hammill or not, best pose choice or not, this is still the same quality as the proto and again, shows that GG will even make some improvements on pieces. Again, I'm just trying to say not all hope is lost, and maybe as a collecting community, we lose out on what could have been a cool Obi-Wan statue, but the quality we've come to enjoy from GG is still there in some pieces and there's hope for more great additions to our collections.

I got this piece about a week ago and I like it a lot. It is not my favorite all time GG piece, but it is a solid addition to the collection. I agree with some that the whole glove thing looks a bit off somehow.

I think the GG sculpt looks a lot like the Medi one. Nothing much Like Hamil. + a ****-Eye I don't see Mark at all. BUT I just don't buy it, problem solved!

In fact here's what the GG one looks like to me, an aged version of the Medicom sculpt, like it got old and lost the lower part of the body.

The likeness is quite off on this piece; not as much as on the medi Luke though. What happened to GG? It seems that the likeness on some of their newer pieces has been off lately!
