I don’t watch trailers so when I finally sat down and watched Afterlife I was extremely disappointed. I saw GB 1 & 2 in the theatres. Watched “The Real” Ghostbusters as a kid and this is what was finally green lite as a third instalment…….remember berries??





Afterlife was so disappointing that I think I would rather rewatch the all girls version before rewatching AF

Yeah, I'm not feeling any real excitement. Years ago I fantasized about a really good sequel involving the original team. The closest they came was probably that PS3 game. Now I realize that the original was lightning in a bottle, and all this other stuff is essentially destined to fail. If the reviews are really good I may consider checking it out in the theater, but most likely I'll wait for a streaming option.

No surprise. I guess that's still a formula for financial success. Weird that now, at least (and only!) in principle, I kind of have more respect for the female GB movie than these. Though I'm sure this new movie will be far superior to that one as a movie, at least the Feig movie was trying something different. Stupid, wrongheaded, and unfunny different, but different nonetheless.

Not really surprised by these lackluster reviews though. The new movie looked overcrowded from the start, and the ice villain never seemed very compelling. So I'll just be hoping it's decent enough like the last one.

I just found Afterlife incredibly uninteresting. Didn't even finish the movie, and I could probably count the times on one hand in which I've just turned a movie off and never went back.

Yeah I suppose it relies a lot on people having a greater reverence for this world and characters than many probably do. And if you don't feel that buzz over seeing a flight suit or ghost trap again then the movie's just not going to work for you.

It took me a few attempts to get all the way through Afterlife. I really only wanted to see the cameos at the end. Even the lovable Paul Rudd fell flat for me, and I didn't like any of the kids.

My brother was watching it for the first time a few weeks ago and he said he was enjoying it, but that might have been the scotch talking.

I thought this one looked even worse with all the call-backs and repeated lines/imagery shoved into the trailer. Yuck. That's a nostalgia-bait Direct TV commercial, not a sequel.

I'm having a hard time believing this is really as bad as the 44% RT score makes it seem. I'm certainly not expecting greatness, but I get the sense from reviews that most of these critics just never had much interest in watching another Ghostbusters movie to begin with.

I usually hate discussing or posting angry reviews since I think the internet has fed off the "Outrage Economy" where everything is a negative reaction of "How dare you!" to another, but this review is so
nihilistic that I feel like all my worst fears as fan of the original (and the cartoons) have been summed up in one angry rant:

I don't really care what reviewers say. Never have. I watch a movie and make my own opinion. Having said that, I am biased in that the original GB is my favorite movie. As long as it stays consistent with Afterlife, I'll be good.

I would also be curious what some of these reviewers who are shitting on this one thought of the 2016 one.

While I think Afterlife was well-made, the fact that they made Egon an absentee father is unforgivable and tarnishes these new movies. Everyone's argument is "oh, well if the world was ending wouldn't you abandon everyone and everything to go and try to save it." Um no, and even if I did think I could help, I wouldn't abandon my family. It also attempts to tarnish the original movies because as we watch them now, in the back of our minds we're like, "oh yeah, Egon has a daughter but isn't with her." It would have sat a little better with me if those things had happened after GB2. Let's say he had a fling or even married a woman sometime soon after GB2. Callie would be in her 30's by the time of the events of Afterlife. Maybe she had Phoebe somewhat young. Phoebe could still be 12 or 13 just like in Afterlife. They could have completely ditched the useless Trevor character. In this scenario we never saw Egon's life at this time so it's an easier pill to swallow to believe he ditched everybody to go try to stop Gozer from coming back. Something had obviously scared him enough to do so. He's completely fine after the defeat of Gozer in GB1, the group goes out of business but comes back to defeat Vigo. Obviously during this time he's not concerned with Gozer yet still has a daughter that he doesn't spend any time with? Whatever scared him concerning Gozer obviously happened after GB2. The Egon we grew up loving would never ditch his friends and business partners and steal all the equipment, it's just ridiculous. It also nearly ruined the movie when Ray says "Egon Spengler can burn in hell." Dude no, that's something Ray, no matter how upset he might be, would never say.

There are other things too, such as the idea of Janine not ending up with Egon or even Louis. In our hearts and minds, she ended up with one of them but it obviously wasn't Egon and there's zero mention of Louis.

Also, there's never any mention of Callie and the kids having a different last name so the kids were never curious and looked up the name Spengler and found their history??

I feel like the discovery of the Ghostbusters, through old youtube commercials, was cool but at the same time it's like no one remembers the events of 1984 or 1989. Trevor mentions it but he says "the old Manhattan ghost stories" as if they were just rumors or something.

I know I'll get some hate for these comments but I've been a huge Ghosthead since I was a kid and the decisions made for the new movies are often bizarre if not completely nonsensical, especially when they come from Reitman and son who felt this would honor Ramis, who in real life was the complete opposite of an absentee father.
