Go Hero has made a huge entrance into the high end sixth scale market, challenging the likes of Hot Toys and Enterbay, with their release of Buck Rogers. Rarely am I this impressed by a figure, especially when it comes to the accessories and outfit. Every time I though I'd exhausted the cool features of this figure, I found another one. With Flash Gordon up next and the Shadow and Doc Savage already announced for next year, 2010 should be a very good year for the pulp hero fans!

I also have a guest review up from Ryan Kelly, who's looking at the 13" deluxe Watchmen figures from DC Direct. You can find all the reviews at the usual:

Thanks for reading!

Mike, Mike....Mike. The pain. I read and skimmed through the review and saw the last pic. Was like, "What?!" Then I read and my heart dropped. A really beautiful piece only to come crashing down, literally.

Yes, it was a biblical moment. Much wailing of voices and gnashing of teeth. My own fault though - I was rushing to get in just a couple more photos, had the figure too close to the edge of the table, got distracted, and the rest, as they say, is history.

I was wondering if you or anyone else would be covering this figure... I got mine and was incredibly impressed by it. BTW, if you want a stand I'd suggest getting one of the Majestic Studio ones as you can get a cool flight pose out of him.

Great review and pics. I'd have to agree he's a very cool figure. And you might want to email Steve about a replacement helmet - perhaps he has some spares.

Keeping the fish bowl intact is what will ensure an increased value in the years to come. Perspex would have been a better material to have been used.

Galacticboy - flip that visor down! Old Buck never wore it like that...some old dude is going to come in your house and give you what for when he sees it :D

Thanks so much for that one! You know, I really love what Go Hero is doing, but I just can't bring myself to buy a figure of a character I don't really have any personal feelings toward...I might be tempted to pick up a The Shadow, I remember my grandfather talking about how he was his favorite as a kid.

I hope Go Hero expands to include other "pulp" figures...a 1/6" ^^^^ Tracy, anyone? I'd pick that one up...

Edit: Ha! They worded out um..."Richard"...lol

Did you really needed to name-drop , Dave...:tap

Great review Mike. When I first skimmed through the pics I only thought that you must've gotten one of the broken helmets on delivery, but my heart sank when I read the paragraph about you dropping it.

It's a fantastic figure, but like thecap said, I can't bring myself to pay that much for a figure that I don't have a connection with. Although if it was ~ $90, I would get it in a heartbeat!

I am a little curious about what it looks like inside the wooden box. You don't happen to have a picture of that, do you? Just the standard clear plastic trays?

i know its your fault that you dropped it on the floor, but I think its fair to criticize and reduce the score for the fact that these bubbles were so fragile. Not only did it create a little hassle regarding broken shipments (I know they did a fine job replacing them), but I don't think going with glass was quite fair to the normal collector long term. 50% of the collectors 5 years from now will probably have broken them. If we criticize the use of rubber on figures for their likelyhood to deteriorate I think fragility on glass items comes into question too.

Is there a place besides ebay to buy the Majestic Studios figure stands?

I got mine from toyanxiety... cost about $2 or $3.

My sincere apologies to all the old folks I may have offended :lol

Have to say I'm really excited about all the possibilities from GoHero. I was wondering if each release would carry the same price tag, but seeing that the skeleton warriors are about $50 and Perseus is $100I think I'll be buying a lot more product from them.

Already have the Flash Gordon figure on order :rock

I don't let my collecting stray from Star Wars, but I have to say that the Go Hero Buck Rogers figure sets a new bar with innovative features and building materials. Sure it is fragile, but real glass, wow!

I hope you get a replacement space helmet. Looking at that last picture my heart sank and I don't have the figure but know the felling well.

I really like the idea of being able to record and add your own sound FX to a figure. Having a remote and USB connectivity with 1GB of storage is a huge boon. Given that it doesn't seem to reduce the articulation by any considerable amount, I hope this is something we see more of down the road with other 1/6 companies.

The envelope just keeps getting pushed from fantastic light up features, to spectatular sculpts, to movable eyes, and now enhanced sound. What a great time to be a 1/6 scale collector.

Thanks for the review.

The recordable body is really going to open things up for customizers. And no, it has zero effect on the articulation, and they did it without stretching out the torso (unlike DST with their 18" figures).
