Greetings from Texas

Hey guys,
New member here from the Dallas area in Texas.
A little about me:
I'm a 31 year old guy, engaged to be married this November.
My background is graphic design and art and I currently work as an Art Director for a really great company that works on some really cool projects.

I grew up with things like Star Wars, Marvel Comics and always had a fascination with really creative things like that. From 1996-2006 I was a member of the 501st and CO for Star Garrison. Even though I am no longer active in that group I still have all of my costumes from those days, Sandtrooper, Boba Fett, Biker Scout and a Snow Trooper. Eventually these will all go on mannequins in my studio with the rest of my collection.

I think that's what jump started me into collecting things that you couldn't just buy off of the shelf.

When I first moved to Dallas, while unpacking my display shelf and *toys* I realized I had a collection of stuff that anyone with access to Wal-Mart could replicate.

Since that time I have slowly built a small but respectable collection. To date here's what I own:

So I think it's a growing, respectable collection. I have been lurking on these boards awhile now, but only signed up today. While I may not post a lot, I appreciate being able to see reviews on statues and chat with folks who have the same expensive hobby as I do!

Welcome, from Fort Worth! I'm 41 and mostly collect Star Wars GG, starting SSC PF, and plenty of celeb photos with some signed. I keep a Gameroom full of Movie posters mostly Action and Sci-Fi with lobby card and movie art. Most of my 3D collection is an my workout room and it there I'm working on a huge wall unit for display.

Yeah that's my other weakness is celeb autographs, well let me clarify, celebs from sci-fi movies and shows, I have a pretty decent size collection of a lot of the new Battlestar Cast and tons of Star Wars autographs, and they're all in a nice case in my closet, I dread the pricetag of getting them all framed!

Significant intro Corrose, I appreciate some of the details you mentioned which tie you to this hobby.

I also had a good chuckle at the defining moment you described to take this hobby in a different direction.

Thanks for the kind words. As far as the upcoming expo, Im usually at all of the Plano/Richardson Scifiexpos, but the upcoming one is a week before my wedding, so Im probably going to miss this one.

Aside from my pre-orders, there's a few pieces I have my eyes on, that Im trying to decide which I simply MUST HAVE. Not sure if this is posted on a different thread or not, but Im juggling the idea of getting one of the following: Sideshow Red Skull, Sideshow Dagger Comiquette, Bowen Mistress Death (to accompany my newly acquired Thanos) or Iron Spider Man.

If anyone has a couple or more of these, please let me know what you think!

I have the Red Skull, I think he pretty cool, especially beside the Captain America. Oddly enough though, as wonderful and detailed a sculpt Exc Red is, I don't think I would have bought it without the Captain America. IMO, it almost needs the CA to be there.

And on a more important note, congrats on your wedding, I wish you and your spouse a great day and many, many, more.

Just wanted to say a quick hello.

I also collect Star Wars autographs and have a nice little growing collection happening. I just find that storing them is the problem at moment .. lol.. Not sure how I will display them.

Yeah I thought that too BM, If I got the Red Skull Id have to have a Cap with it. Problem is in my opinion the best SS Cap goes for about $1200 on ebay and the best Bowen cap I have seen doesn't impress me.

Guess that answers the question for me
