Grievous repair

Hi all, I bought this online for a great price. It had some goop on the side that ran down to the base. It came off the poly stone easy enough and when I wiped down the inside, some of the paint came off (I think this mark was there and I just cleaned it off more). Anyway, I'm not very artistic but can someone tell me how to make it less noticeable?

Maybe just take some black paint on a frayed brush and dab it a few times? I'm thinking to try and make the black spotting and don't worry about the dark grey.
