I've been on a bit of a Tarzan kick lately, and haven't been able to find any great 12" figures based on Edgar Rice Burroughs' most famous creation.

Has any customizer out there made a decent Johnny Weissmuller headsculpt?

It's a shame classic film characters like Tarzan, Zorro, Sherlock Holmes and Sinbad don't get much love in the toy world. When they do, companies always seem to opt for generic versions instead of getting the likeness rights for Tyrone Power, Douglas Fairbanks or Basil Rathbone. Maybe there's just not enough interest?

I've never seen a 1:6 Tarzan. I would think the closest you might get is if you get the 1:6 Buster Crabbe Flash Gordon and do a head transplant and repaint.
Unfortunately, most kids today won't watch the classics because;
a- they're black & white
b- they don't have today's special effects
c- they don't know who is in them
d- they don't know they exist

Any muscle body out there is 70% on your way to a custom Tarzan figure. And there are plenty of heads with longer hair out there. The Taylor Kitsch Gambit head might work and I'm sure a loincloth isn't that hard to make - Tarzan made one afterall :lol

Biggest problem I would see is the foot/ankle area most bodys have small looking feet and really bad looking ankles, I could live with most other exposed joints but not there it would just look to wierd, you could I guess give him some 'skin' boots or use a Leonidas body.

some good ideas there.

Some Planet of the Apes leftovers may help in the loincloth area.

Thanks for the shout-out--that's my Tarzan kitbash! I never posted it anywhere other than at the Mego Museum, mainly because here and at OSW there are so many great 1/6 customizers I'd feel embarrassed by my rinky-dink efforts. The ACI Andrew 1.1 looked like the best choice to me, as far as hiding joints go. Also, after studying how the various film Tarzans loincloths were made, it looked like the one worn by Gordon Scott was constructed in such a manner it would hide the leg joints the best. I was going to wig him using a synthetic mohair wig from Facets, but once I got it I decided he looked better with the Kaustic Plastik KP01A head left as-is, since it has a passable Edwardian-era 'do. Anyway, after tinkering with him a bit more, he looks a bit better than those pics on Flickr. I should take more and put new ones up some time.

At any rate, if you have any questions about the loincloth construction, just send me a PM or something and I'll try to explain it the best I can. I should probably scan the pattern and post it on Flickr in the future, too.
