I was PMed by a board member about my Abbott and Costello sculpts that I purchased from Alex Lopez a while back.

This board member(who will remain nameless) wanted to know where I got them and I sent him a link to Alex's Abbott and Costello thread so he could purchase them. I thought that would be it. I felt like I helped out a fellow freak.

The board member (who shall still remain nameless) PMed me again asking if I would send him my sculpts so he could re-cast them not to make copies but for just personal use and he would pay me $40 per sculpt and send my sculpt back. He said he didn't want to bother with the Mexican postal system since Alex lives in Mexico and it would take a month for him to get them.

Of course I refused. Alex deserves better than that. Then it occurred to me it might be some sort of scam on top of this guy being a re-caster.

I'd appreciate your thoughts on this, guys....

I just got another PM from the guy...

He started saying that since Alex Lopez didn't have a license to the likenesses of Abbott and Costello so... Alex is in the wrong.

Here is his PM:

.....wasnt sure if he was the caster or painter, was confused....we may differ a little on the artist rip off thing.....im sure he is a great arrtist, but this is an underground hobby (customs) and i dont think he got a liscense from the abbot and costello people too pay royalties to them for selling these..so i am pretty sure it starts with the artists that decide to do this....just because you can doesnt make it right....companys pay a lot of money to the abbot/costello inc. to make their likeness ans put on mugs, t shirts, models, etc etc.......each custom batman superman, etc is an illegal infringement on their liscense ...but they are made every month on the board........so to me to make a personal cast of something made illegaly in the first place does not bother me........now, if this was trade marked and alex was paying royalties to them, then yes it would be wrong...........have you ever bought a pirated dvd, and gave it to your friend so he didnt have to buy the same one............thanks for the advice

Let me ask, I'll give you $40 each for them so I can get myself a cast, you would have to send them to me, my rating on here is 100%, and on eBay I have over 4,300 100 % post. Feedback, so don't worry about trust, I'm no scammer...I just don't want to deal with Mexico....this is just for me...not a resell........so, like I said, just to borrow them to get a cast I would give you $40 each for them, I would send them back by priority mail to you....ok...let me know...and Thsnks......

I could see that if you had no other choice - because the sculpts were long since sold out and unavailable - you may decide on a long shot email to see if someone would be willing to part with theirs temporarily.

But he is basically just saying, 'I don't want to deal with a minor hassle of a postal service so instead want you, a random stranger to deal with a more major hassle for no personal benefit'

Tell him it's $75 per sculpt.
