got myself some sculpy clay and played with this to see how hard head sculpting is......it IS hard..lol.....cant do the damn eyes

I am just now starting to to headsculpts too, and yours looks a lot better than mine. Do you have any tips? I am complete n00b and know nothing

That's actually not bad georgieboy, keep it up!

If I can suggest something it would be to sculpt your heads on a rod that way you can manipulate it without touching the clay.

Also try sculpting yourself using a 3 way mirror, it really helps to understand facial anatomy.

The eyes are hard because of the shape or the size?
BTW, for practice it helps if you try to sculpt a replica of a 6 scale head you already have to get a feel of what your proportions should feel and look like. You can take measurements directly off of it too.
IMO, it would be easier than sculpting yourself in the mirror, though that is a good exercise too and probably more rewarding.

not really other than what the other guys have said...its all practice I guess, sculpy clay isnt too bad to work with on smallscale models, and get some decent tools......i just used a toothpick to make this, gonna invest in some clay tools....... just keep tryin bud

its the eyes in general, getting the top and lower lids to look right. I find it tough, I am using 1/6 figs for reference too....thanx buddy:hi5:

thanx nek, but I could never sculpt something so beautiful..lol, :wink1:....I did use a tube type rod when I was modelling this, it was useful for turning the sculpt and so on....:)

Is the head hardened yet?
If not you can dig out the eye sockets and stick small balls in for eyeballs, It'll constrain the shape of your lids to fit the 'spherical' shape of the eye just right. Google the attachment points of the eyelids also.
You might wanna try taking some bulk off the corners of your jaw. You'll generally not want them to be in the same plane as the corners of your mouth.

you should check out this tutorial, although it is just a demo of the REAL tutorial that you can buy, it helped me a lot by looking at her working on the clay:

<iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/xo4COOhPk3k" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

There are 8 lessons in total, but like I said all are just small demos.l
