A friend of mine just mentioned these to me..says he heard and saw photos not too long ago...Does anyone know anything etc..if they exist or are they going make em soon?...I'm real curious

I saw some of them at the neca booth during comic-con. I couldn't find anyone who could give me info. I need to contact them for torn to let folks know.

Heroclix is a tabletop miniatures game made by WizKids/NECA similiar to Warhammer or Warhammer 40K, but on a much smaller scale that deals with Marvel and DC super-heroes. Instead of vast armies, you only play with small teams of maybe 5-10 figures, in most cases.

The first Tolkien set was released last Fall and was based on the LOTR movies. It's actually a really strong set as far as being competitive with the super-hero stuff that WK usually makes. The upcoming Hobbit set is confirmed, but we don't know what figures will be in the set. Like the LOTR set, it should include basic single figure blind packs and a "starter" set that contains a preset list of figures (last year's LOTR starter had Sauron, who is a bad-ass in the game). The LOTR set contained 21 figures and 3 Chase figures and was prize-supported for tournament play with 2 Limited Edition figures and the One Ring object token. It's anticipated that the Hobbit set will be comparable and should be out by around Dec - WK is always delaying product, so take whatever the going release date is and back it up a month.

Just looked at some photos of these and I think they look ok for their small size...32 pcs LOTR and 24 Hobbit pcs round out most of the characters...These could be considered the poor mans LOTR statue collection...plus finding display space should not be a factor at all...LOL

Well, they're not that expensive so I don't expect a whole lot detail/likeness wise.

Being mass produced pre-painted figures for $3 a piece, you can't expect much. However, I will say that alot of their Marvel/DC stuff looks great in hand, especially when they use translucent plastic effects. In general, you have winners, like the Sauron and Witch King figures, but then you have weaker ones like Ugluk and Gorbag.

I'd recommend taking a look at a site called HC Realms. It's pretty much the major site in terms of Heroclix and they do have pics of Marvel/DC and the LOTR set figures up. Most people collect the figures to play the game, but some do get into them just for the collectiblity.

And you can just do a search for Heroclix Lord of the Rings and check the images. There's some good ones on there.

I won't be getting them though.

Any more word on the chess pieces?
