Hot Toys Indiana Jones review, new feature and giveaway!

Tonight's review is a team effort. My resident Indy expert, Guy Klender, is helping me review the new Hot Toys Indiana Jones. If you thought either of us hated him, you were wrong, but there are a few differences of opinion.

I also have a new feature with this review. The first photo in the main review, where there used to normally be a packaged photo, is now the 'life size' photo. Click on this photo and a window will open showing you the figure in actual life size. I think this is very helpful, especially with figures in smaller scales. Let me know what you think!

When you click on the 'calibrate' button, you get to choose from a credit card, dollar bill, CD, etc. I used a credit card, since I had one handy in my pocket. Worked pretty easily.

Too generous. For the cost of this figure...and most of HT figures in fact....you're paying for an uncanny, lifelike sculpt.

This is only bears a passing resemblence, and only at very specific angles. Really, only the profile looks even close.

Interestingly, it's the profile that looks most off in-hand (probably because of the PERS), so from your take I'll just assume you haven't seen it for yourself, like most of the haters.

Most of us know what 1/6th figures look like in-hand, but it was cool seeing Indy actual size like that. Nice feature.

No problem with Gruson getting the figure and not liking it. A couple others don't like it, either. But the hate parade has long since been tiresome, especially from people who've apparently not seen it in-hand and just parrot the same, tired complaints that most who now have the figure don't agree are real issues... especially when some use terms like "disaster" to describe it. The hate was overboard, and now the consensus is that there is crow to be devoured by a few folks.

I don't like the PERS, either. That and the neck joint throws off the profile a bit. But this is a solid figure. In a way I guess we should thank all the detractors for pummeling low expectations into submission. Most are happily surprised when seeing this in person. Very, very few photos have provided a look that approximates what you see in-hand.

You're not paying extra for an uncanny, lifelike sculpt. You're paying extra for the moveable eyes, a real braided whip, intricately manufactured shoes, an extra outfit, idol pedestal, and a fancy box. It's a DX. They're throwing way more stuff in the package than necessary.

If it wasn't a DX, it'd have a molded whip, molded shoes, standard head and stand, and it'd be $200, and still feel like a rip-off to haters.

I don't like the price, but I can at least admire all the craftsmanship that went into the total package.

Oh, and I dig that Life-Sizer thing.

I didn't even think Gruson collected 1/6 figures... he was always a bigger is better collector

I like the lifesize feature, even with 1/6 figures its easy to forget that most of the images we see are much larger than the actual figure in hand.

The only thing I disliked was it said “Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark.” This is not the title and never was. Somehow when the films were released on DVD it got this bad title. It is simply Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Thank George for that. Its not a printing mistake on the DVD box.
