I haven't read much of this but prepare to pay out the A** for them if they come out. You figure SW Medi figures are near $200 vs about $100 for SS. Now look at price of Medi Spiderman $100 vs HT Spiderman $150 so that says that HT will be about 50% more then Medi so that put HT SW around $300.:thud::lol:lol:lol

Well Medi SM is 3 years old now. If it was to come out tomorrow it would be well over 100$, and HT SM is 139$. Besides this is about SS OR HT, Medi's prices have ALWAYS been jacked. HT SW figs would be around 150$ with DX's obviously being more.

139 retail? I dont deal in discounted prices I deal in manufactured retail price.

Ok fine lets go with %25 difference between Medi and HT, so you SW HT will be around the $250 mark.

If Medi Spider-Man were to come out now he'd be well up there, look at their recent releases. Tron Daft Punk anyone? You can't compare a figure from years ago to something to be released next year.

That being said with the LFL licensing issues on top of the natural progression of figures themselves anyone would be kidding themselves to think that the Star Wars figures wouldn't come in at around $189.99 as an MSRP if not slightly higher....and that is for basic figures like Luke or Han. Looking at things like Vader or Grevious you are looking at somewhere in the $249.99 realm.

Let me put it this way, I don't own a SSC figure I'm not happy with. They could be better, but for the price I'm satisfied. As for the cost comparison, a single figure such as Palpatine was $90, a single Black Widow figure is $150. An armored clone with his goodies is $125, Iron Man is $180. My collecting has decreased considerably with the price increases, not so much because I can't afford it as I can't justify the expense for a glorified toy. Perhaps I'm not as discriminating as other collectors but I like my collection of Jedi and at Hot Toys prices, I would only own One Obi Wan figure.
As for Yoda, despite his small size, he still needed to have the production costs of a larger figure, so the fact that he is made of less plastic isn't much of a difference.

Licensing aside i just don't see it quite that high for basic figures. Vader, droids, hard to do figs? I could see over 200$ for sure. (you know a Vader would light up)

I agree, Anzik. I'm in the same boat. I've already cut back a ton this year and it would be terrible if I was priced out of this hobby. :(

I personally think HT will not be "taking over" the SW line, just doing the few more difficult figures (if they end up doing 1/6 at all since it's all just speculation at this point). So hopefully I'll still be in the game for at least a while.

To be honest, if it's SW figs of these i will be just as happy!

As far as SW figs from HT. Basic figures I'd say will be around if it ever happens the $150-175 mark pretty easy and stuff like Vader, Clones, etc over $215 to even say $250.

Personally I've always been pretty happy with SS human sculpts but more often its paint apps that tend to hurt them if anything.

So did HT announce they are making 1:6 Star Wars?

My desire for Hot Toys to do Star Wars figures has pretty much bottomed out.

But on the bright side...with the general attitude of this thread...I am guessing that sales of Hot Toys Star Wars would be so low that the line would tank for them quickly...and then the issue will die.

Well, you heard it here first, folks. Better send Hot Toys a certified letter and tell them that Star Wars figures are a terrible idea. . . just like how nobody would buy $50 Star Wars figures from Sideshow after buying $20 figures from Hasbo for 10 years.

Can't say I ever heard this one. Must have been before my time.

I remember being on the Rebelscum forums, and people were scoffing at the idea of $50 Star Wars figures. When Anakin came out at $54, an extra $5 for the robot arm, people were freaking out.

It's been like that ever since. . . hence "$90 for the Emperor?!?! He doesn't even have any pants!!"

Way back when, The Josh (I think he was still jlcmsu or something like that) was putting forth the argument that the true cost of the figure was something like $65, and the initial figures were priced like door-busters to get people hooked on the line. . . :lol. I guess that means the $90 Emperors are making up for all those Jedi Lukes, Obi-Wans, Anakins and Kit Fistos that Sideshow lost money on.

And now they are losing even more as more and more people are bailing on this line.

Yeah, that was my old handle. Nobody could remember the spelling. :lol I still stand by the initial pricing on these figures had more to do with getting people hooked but obviously not everyone will agree with me.

I just want to respond on the Human likenesses, and TheJosh will agree with me on this as we were talking about it a few days ago. Sideshow can't be fully responsible for the the likenesses not being 100%. Take the Mace sculpt, Prototype looked pretty good, but Lucasfilm told them to change it to a more generic look.

It would be nice to deal in reality, but unfortunately most people don't want to hear the truth.
SSC does a very good job, but not perfect, and not as good as HT.
The Star Wars collecting community is never satisfied. If you gave them HT quality at Hasbro prices they would still complain. Its very much a "what have you done for me lately" mentality. As annoying as it can be, it does force the bar higher. We have to acknowledge that the dissatisfaction with the Buck resulted in the Pro, the dissatisfaction with the ordering process resulted in better servers, the dissatisfaction with paint rubs resulted in plastic collars, so the criticism has some merit.
The bottom line is that even if HT were to take over the line, collectors would still complain. Look at the complaints about Whiplash's hair for example. As I've pointed out, SSC responded to criticism and adapted, last week a sculptor from HT said he doesn't like the nitpicking, which sounds like he's saying "if you don't like it, don't buy it." I've invested my hard earned dollars into a product, so I have a right to offer an opinion regardless of who likes it or doesn't, and most importantly my opinion is expressed through my dollars. If I don't like it I don't buy it, and I like having the ability to tell SSC WHY I didn't buy it and hope they improve the next one.

As far as likenesses go, SSC is solid. The ones they have trouble with are the ones everyone has trouble with. Its ironic to me that after at least a dozen or two attempts, at Mark Hamill, Mat Falls' version still captures him the best, expression not withstanding. HT just did Harrison Ford and I think it isn't the definitive Indy. Paint apps still suck and the tailoring could be better.
Ok, I'm done.
