I got a couple of these back on the original release and sold them on immediately after taking out the box. Really didn’t like the helmet, or the visor & looked too just weird
I quite like this version it’s my favourite HT stormtrooper, reminds me a lot of the Jedi Outcast model. Helmet is goofy AF and it’s overall chunky, I love it i might get another one. My original didn’t come with the background

Some of my old comparison pics of the HT Stormies
I've never really studied this fully enough but is it true to say that the HT ROTJ stormie shares NO common parts with the HT ANH stormie except perhaps the underlying body and bodysuit? Like they started from scratch when creating their ROTJ version, even inclduing the unique ROTJ-style blaster?

The ROTJ torso armor has ridges on the edges, which I prefer, white soles, holster on opposite side of where ANH is, and larger shoulder pieces. I’m sure there’s other differences, someone else may chime in.
One thing HT definitely got wrong on the ROTJ Stormtrooper was the kidney plate/butt plate the armor. They should be one piece (lower back and butt parts were not cut apart), but HT made them separate like their ANH troopers. If I'm not mistaken, I believe the abdomen armor should be one piece (stomach area down to the crotch) as well.

I have the first release of this guy, and I don't need a 2nd. I'm good with one of each Stormtrooper design.

I have the Spacetrooper, original Sandtrooper, the 1st RO Stormtrooper release, and the Shadow Trooper, and this guy (non deluxe).

Instead of re-releasing this ROTJ version, I would've loved for HT to have done a stunt version of the ANH Stormtrooper. They did the hero version of the helmet with the original release, the Spacetrooper and the Shadow Trooper. And nearly every version since with the Disney stuff seems to use the RO bucket. The stunt version is basically the Sandtrooper helmet, which they have already made, but clean and on the Stormtrooper armored body. The original orange pauldron Sandtrooper is still my favorite of the HT troopers, and to me, best looking of all the versions they have done. My eyes always seem to stop on that the longest.

I do have the Marmit Stormtrooper which used the stunt helmet (and I have a Sandtrooper), which to this day I still feel is the best looking on the shelf from a distance. But I could really do with a newer better made version. I would love for HT to do one.

It's nice that they did (inaccuracies aside). The original molds had deteriorated badly by the time RotJ went into production so all the helmets and bits and pieces came out all wonky.

Don't make me count all my stormies (and variants). I did that once and it made me cry thinking I probably could have paid off my house :lol

Totally agree the stunt suit was a big omission. The hero is great, but its the hero. It doesn't represent the masses of troopers doing the dirty work. This reminds me I still need to PO the new sandtrooper...

Sideshow says this coming June - Sept

Looks like he's got the mumps in this shot. Take a sick day man!

I have to agree on the Marmit troopers looking the best (from distance), which is kinda accurate to the cowtumes as they looked great from a distance but you look closely.... they kinda wonky and practically duct taped together (well, not just kinda, there was that duct taped trooper in ANH).

I would love something as accurate as the Marmit troopers but as well made as the HT, something basically like an idealised OT trooper, omitting asymmetry of helmet but maintaining overall look. Basically the intended appearance. That would be nice

I agree that the HT Sandtrooper is the best one they have made so far, but it still shows a lot of room for improvement.

Here's a comparison I made of 4 buckets I have. From left to right: Marmit Sandtrooper, HT Stormtrooper, Custom stunt bucket (from solo_bones, painted by me), HT Sandtrooper.

One thing people may not be aware of is that - in keeping with ROTJ vs SW/ESB where endor stormies were dirty - is that this stormie is lightly weathered whereas the ANH version is 100% clean.

I popped the lenses out of my HT sandie and made the eye holes bigger. It helps, but there's not enough of a flange around the eyes to get the holes big enough.

I do like the Marmit sandie helmet but it has that baby poop smear weathering you have to wipe off and it has the same nose vs chin proportion issue as the HT. I love the slim look of the Marmit troopers but the lack of crispness of the sculpt - being vinyl - is really too poor for today. Great from a distance but not any closer.

Diddo for all! I've customized my Hot Toys and Marmit Sandtroopers (swapped out some pauldrons). Marmit definitely did a better job on the helmet sculpt. I've thought about, with great hesitation because of removing the armor, changing the bodies on my Marmit troopers, but probably not! ;)
