Just thumbing through the various forums, and i was hit by a rather odd thought. how many of our customizers here use traditional brush and paint, and how many use an airbrush? How many use both?
If you use an airbrush, what airbrush do you use ( I'm thinking of gettning one, I'd like some sugestions) And what paints do you use with it? what ratio of paint to water/ airbrush fluid do you use, etc?

Me? I use Traditional brushes and games worshop paints.

I use el-cheap-o acrylics from Wal-Mart with paint brushes. My style is ripped directly from Josh's tutorial in the "Attention Artists" thread.

Once I get some more cash, I'd like to try out some of the better paints out there (like games workshop) and buy a ton of figures and heads to work on for fun.

I use Testor's Model Mster Acryl Acrylic with paint brush. I do use an air brush occasionally, but it's nothing but the Testor's $10 air brush. I also just use Badger can of air. Not the best set up though.:lol

I painted D&D minatures back in the day, and might give customizing a try if I can ever find the time, but I know when I was doing it, it was all about the brushes/materials. There's a reason those brushes cost $15-$20 a pop.

huge variety of paints, tamiya, vallejo, humbrol,Winsor and Newton,Citadel. and at last some testors model master Acrylics, then some cheap n chearful acrylics, halfords automotive primers.Tamiya brushes,W&N,Royal Taklon (really cheap!)Dalor rowney (not so cheap)
Airbrushes driven by either a portable Iwata 'smart jet pro' or an Aztec silent, airbrushes are, Iwatas HP-SBS,HP-BH (x2)HP-A, and an old worn HP-B

Love the Testors Model Master Acryl Acryic Enamels love here! My paint of choice! :rock
Hand paint everything. No airbrush. I might pick that up sometime, as I do like some of the effects, but I prefer to blend by hand. Especially skintones.

So By Hand, Testors, and like they say, Wax On, Wax off...Up, Down, Up Down, WHole fence...Up Down, Up Down...

Usual cidital paint and there brushes, would really like to use the Testors but can't find them in the UK. Got an airbrush but never used it.

Well, if you took the time to look over my gallery, you would clearly see that I finger paint!:duh:lol

I'm far from any kind of authority, but I find that the cheaper paint I've used (Folkart, which I think is equivalent to Apple Barrel) gives a rougher, more textured surface, which I think I may actually prefer to the smoother, more plastic look and feel of more expensive paints (at least for painting skin). It's a matter of preference, but I personally don't think the cheaper paints are without merit, or should be dismissed outright by people just getting into the hobby. Give 'em a try, I say! More important than quality of paint, I think, is to thin the heck out of 'em (thickness of whole milk is what I shoot for).
