I am wanting to put together a few custom figures. They're from comics though and not movies so its not like I'm looking for someone from Hot toys to craft me a godlike accurate figure. But how much should I be looking at if I contact a customizer to make me a head?

I realize its probably going to range artist to artist, but when you guys are looking for a custom head thats not made, what do you expect the range to be?

I just don't want to go into this blindly, but I'm fairly new to the whole custom thingy.

thanks!

Greetings:

I've worked and spoken with quite a few artists and I can tell you that the price can vary anywhere from $200 to $800. Who you choose really depends on your preference and/or budget.

For me, I am a true believer that you get what you pay for. Pay $200 and it's going to look like a $200 head. Now of course, to you that $200 head may look amazing. It's all subjective.

There really is no simple rule. If you find someone who's work you like and is in your budget, then that's that.

Oh, as for your question "when you guys are looking for a custom head thats not made, what do you expect the range to be?" I expect it to be top-notch, Hot Toys quality. Then again, I'm usually commisioning a headsculpt for re-sale, so I need it to be top-notch. That's just me.

Hope that helps.

Eric

Yeah thank you, that really helps me with what my budgeting. What I meant was, its an obscure comic character whos never been translated into an actor, so it doesn't have to be exacting to the point of what some expect for like say a Bale resemblance.

One thing to consider is if you can find a good "close enough" production head it's usually cheaper to commission someone to alter a head a bit too look good rather than start from scratch.

I hadn't considered that and that may actually be a doable as its a half mask with hair also. I could proabably find a sculpt similar that just needed hair molded to it. :hi5:
