Here is a short "how to" for my custom hair application for sideshow Aragorn

What you need:

- Sideshow aragorn head
- "fimo", "sculpey" or similar modelling paste
- Brown Mohair
- Standard glue
- scisspors and pliers

And: Lots of Patience, time and some luck !

First I took off the rubber hair and stripped the head from the factory paint. Then I molded a new scull with Fimo (burn it in the oven for something like 15min at a VERY low temperature approx. 100 degree centigrade - soory - i don't know fahrenheit)

Then I painted the new head sculpt

2. Step washing with acrylics

3. step - finishing with pastels (both dry and wet)

Then comes the hair - first I painted the mohair with dilluted acrylics and let it dry so that it gets a little stiffer

Then I glued it in small portions covering the face with tape (low sticking tape in order not to ruin the paint)

After that I repainted some parts with acrylics and molded the hair when half dry - after lots of time, effort and some luck :

Thanks. I've been wanting to try this for a while. The LOTR figures cry out for this in particular.

A quick question... but how small of a clump do you do at a time? Anymore 'in between' pics available?

I'm assuming you start at the bottom of the head and work your way to the top?

Thanks to everybody !

@Rugby1970: sorry - no mor in between pics. I did one row of hair at the buttom and then one row on top - each clump should be as small as possible - the smaller the better the result will be - depends on your hands and your patience

Great tutorial! I have wanted to try this to another figure.
Where does one get Mohair?

Yes, I have looked for mohair for ages now. Used to carry it in any art supply store, back when doll making was a national craze, but not anymore. Any leads or tips? Links would be nice too! Great stuff! Love how he came out.

Thanks to everybody !

No worries. Great stuff... I just realized I've seen your Good, the Bad, and the Ugly figures on OSW! Great stuff. So resourceful and creative. Nice to see you here too!

Great to see someone finally trying this and succeeding! Have any plans to do this with any of the other characters?

I found the mohair at a local arts & crafts shop (Germany) - so I'm sorry i can't give you any hints where to get some

Thanks again okieh2! I just bought some mohair on ebay and I'm going to attempt to use it on a custom Bob the goon figure I'm working on.
