Here is a short "how to" for my custom hair application for sideshow Aragorn
What you need:
- Sideshow aragorn head
- "fimo", "sculpey" or similar modelling paste
- Brown Mohair
- Standard glue
- scisspors and pliers
And: Lots of Patience, time and some luck !
First I took off the rubber hair and stripped the head from the factory paint. Then I molded a new scull with Fimo (burn it in the oven for something like 15min at a VERY low temperature approx. 100 degree centigrade - soory - i don't know fahrenheit)
Then I painted the new head sculpt
2. Step washing with acrylics
3. step - finishing with pastels (both dry and wet)
Then comes the hair - first I painted the mohair with dilluted acrylics and let it dry so that it gets a little stiffer
Then I glued it in small portions covering the face with tape (low sticking tape in order not to ruin the paint)
After that I repainted some parts with acrylics and molded the hair when half dry - after lots of time, effort and some luck :
