I love it, but it has to be the assembly cut, makes the movie so much better.
It's still flawed, as Fincher nearly walked on many occaisions through its difficult production. Giger was originally meant to do all the design but Fox cut him from the loop (another reason Fincher was pissed off), but at least his ideas were utilised.

Cameron didn't allow Giger or Moebius any input in the design of ALIENS at all... Ho hum!

But which ever way you look at it the production standards were great, the acting was well above the average for this kind of 'genre' movie, and yes, I think the acting was superior to ALIENS, I'm not saying it was a better movie, as ALIENS helped re-define action movies in its own way.

I voted 'love it' because to me it feels like an Alien film. It feels like its set in the same universe as 1 and 2, like the characters from Alien 3 could share the screen with the characters in the first two films. Alien Resurrection and the AvP films do not. They're very cartoony by comparison.

Alien 3 has great actors, dialogue I really enjoy, a fantastic soundtrack by Elliot Goldenthal, a brilliant creature design (not done justice by HT IMO) and the creature felt lethal again.

I've always enjoyed Alien3... they definitely move in descending order form the the original down, but I still think its a great flick. Never really understood the hate for it.

Now Resurrection... that's a different story :yuck

I voted "love it!" as well, just drink lots of coffee before you watch it. :lol

what this guy said :lecture

i like alien 3 :) alot like the original, great creature, great acting and general ruggedness :)confused: im sure theres a better word for it :lol) of the setting.

seriously those who dont like A3 and havent scene the directors cut need to check it out. makes alot of difference IMO

Love it.
Many reasons why but primarily – it is the rare genre sequel that has consequences. Usually our protagonists bounce along through adventures and maybe acquire a flesh wound or an eye-patch for their trouble. Ripley has everything taken from her and comes to terms with it among a group of men who are also, with varying degrees of success, playing with the harsh hands they’ve been dealt (or how badly they've played them). People dealing with things that have changed them forever. Resurrection notwithstanding, there’s no coming back from some of these changes. Her only hope is in a compromise that she cannot live with and, like Bishop, she’d “rather be nothing.”
I understand why it isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but I find it very, very interesting.
The excellent cast and beautiful visuals don't hurt, either.
It's also my favorite Alien design of the series.

Alien 3 was the closing chapter of the Alien franchise for me. It should have been left alone after that. Anything after Alien 3 merely "exists". I loved it as much as the first two installments.

:lecture And also very much what he said - great point there.

i'll put this in point format

- i like having just the one alien
- i really liked the environment it was filmed in
- it was a perfect place for an alien to be
- they changed it up a bit rather than facehuggin a human an animal gets hugged
- its the end of ripley, she kills herself because she has a queen inside of her, the xenomorph haunts her memories, and she has nothing left back home.
- some of the themes are cool, like the planet prison, where they force religion on the inmates to try and cleanse them, until 1 girl comes along and then all the prisoners think back to their criminal ways. Just goes to show you cant cure evil men with religion, or anything.

i give that movie 8/10 stars. i hated how they used some computer generated graphics in it for the alien. that one part where the alien runs just kills it for me. I also think there could have been more scenes with the alien, the dog alien was just beautiful. oh ya there is another thing, i miss the giger element from the first movie that should have stayed with all the alien movies.. the creepyness of the alien , giger took it all with him.

i dig it. it was not a trypical 'hollywood' ending where the hero against all odds survives yet again, etc, etc. finicher went for the 'kill your darlings approach' which made it more honest and 'real life' where things didn't work out the way they planned. it had a very dirty, dingy, ugly feel to the whole thing. i also liked the idea of the hybrid/dog alien.

Hate is such a strong word, but I disliked it (start rolling your eyes here) simply because they killed off Newt and Hicks. Well, it wasn't so much that they died, but it just seemed so cheap, as if they couldn't get the actors to play the parts so they died "offscreen." Whether that's true or not, I don't know, but I think the story could have been a lot richer if they were involved somehow.

Other than that, it's okay. At least it's not all cartoony like Resurrection (which I dislike much more than Alien 3, or even the AVP movies).

i have always loved Alien 3. I love the setting and the design of the alien, also the score is outstanding.

i dont necessarily love it, but far far far from hating it. Why? well a lot of great points have already been covered, but for me, and I know this might be seen as blasphemy, the characters aside from Ripley were some of the most interesting in the series. For me, Aliens was superb, but the characters were essentially badass marines, in the first things were a bit more interesting no doubt, but in Alien 3 we had a bunch of religious, ex-homicidal maniacs, rapists, thieves and all around terrible people that had formed a completely new community in the dystopia of the Alien universe. it's like we finally get the underside of this world, first we got the exploration team in Alien, then the military pov in Aliens, and in the third we actually got to go inside of a prison, an all male one at that, with Ripley, one of the (perhaps THE) most badass sci-fi action heroine of all time, plopped in the middle of it.

maybe not executed perfectly, but for me it provided more food for thought after-viewing mind-candy than the other films in terms of characters and supporting cast.

Totally loved it! Second best alien movie in my opinion! Fincher did a great job. Good casting, nice environment, original alien design (dog alien) and i loooved the score from Goldenthal. It was different but I liked it.

I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it either.
it's more like a one night stand, that it the morning you think, "well it could have been worse, I could have gone home with her fat friend".
