Shame more Sandman products weren't released though, given the fact he's gonna essentially be the main villain in the movie.

But he still have more coverage then X-treme Sports Harry, I have only seen the one bust of him done.

I think its the whole Matinees cost less joke running rampant. Matinees in my area cost $7.00...standard time features run $12.00 so if a movie doesn't look that good but I still want to see it or I hear bad review you make the Matinee joke.

As for merchandising, I have a feeling we haven't yet seen the full blitz of the SM3 waves just yet. Hopefully there is more Sandman in the pipe....you never know MediCom could still shock and announce one over the summer...

Holy crap! Your matinee price is our full price! Its only $5 for matinees here. (regular theaters, IMAX are about those prices).

Wow....IMAX $7.00? That is a godsend....I paid $14 to see the 300 in IMAX....

On rottentomatoes.com it has received a 72 percent freshness rating (from what I last saw), which was no where near that of the last Spider-Man film, or even as high as the original. Most of the complaints with the new Spidey picture is how Raimi and company try to stuff so many villians in a small time frame (139 minute runtime) vs. giving one bad guy time to develop nicely in a 2-plus hour feature like the last two.

As much as I love the Spider-Man franchise, and Marvel films in general, despite the few duds here and there *cough* The Fantastic Four, X-Men 3, and Elektra *cough* I can't say I am overly eager or highly motivated to see this flick. I think it's the over-saturation of sequels and remakes in the film industry and all the duds we been getting. And even those that aren't, it's like, been there, done that.

I can't believe I am saying this, but I could wait for this to come out on DVD! There's a fat chance of that happening with my best friends and girlfriend forcing me to see this. And trust me, if the girlfriend says jump.. YOU JUMP! hehe

You have to also understand that while Sony and Columbia both greenlit another set of Spidey films, Raimi, Maguire and Dunst were at their limit. I don't blame Raimi for trying to go out in a blaze of glory and from what I hear the fight scenes are done really well but in retrospect I think we'll get two wasted villains out of this one.

The funny thing is that Sandman is the primary villain and the villain that both Maguire and Raimi wanted in this film yet the character getting all the hype is Venom, the character Raimi didn't even want in the film let alone seems to have shoved in the film to shut people up. X-Games Green Goblin also hasn't really been getting a lot of press......

Are you serious! $12 for regular feature. Man, Mike that sux. We pay aroung $8 for regular feature and $5.00 for matinee. I only paid $11 to see Batman Begin at an Imax theater in Tampa Bay.

So are you basically saying, based on the reviews, we'll see all the SS SM3 stuff on clearance soon? ;)

When it comes out on DVD, skip the initial 'theater release' and wait for SM 3.1. They do this with all the Marvel movies now.

Seeing it in 5 hours and 25 minutes!
Pretty gosh darned excited here!

Watched my 2.1 last night...might watch it here again....

Hope it rocks!

Hey guys,

I saw SM3 for the second time tonight. I'll be giving you some more details as I tried to focus especially on the flaws (there are too much of them I guess) So if you still have not seen the movie, you might wanna avoid this post.
First of all, like it's been said before, the movie is way too short. It has a kind of weird rythm. Too many things happen in a very short amount of time and you just feel as if there were actually two movies in SM3.
The second thing is Gwen Stacy. There is no denying that she is only there for the fans and has absolutely no purpose in the script. It feels kinda unappropriate when you're a fan and you know how important this character is.
As far as Eddie Brock is concerned, I think Topher Grace was a good choice. He does look like Eddie but just doesn't act like we would have expected him to. He's just a smart ass all the time. Anyway, Venom should not have been added to the film in the first place. Or the movie should have been dedicated to this single character (and neither sandman nor Xtreme sports futuristic Harry).
In addition, I think there are too many ridiculous scenes in the film. Peter Parker is always laughed at but not that much! With time Sam Raimi should have a shown a more mature Peter. Yet he just acts like a kid in the film.
And there's also all this hype about Spider-Man in this film. In the comic books the people of New-York love Spidey but he's not a rock star... I guess Sam Raimi really wanted to show that, over the past few years (since the end of SM2), Spider-Man had become more famous than ever. But it's just too much.

Ultimately, SM3 is still a good film. There are a lot of things taken from the comics that all fans will like. In actual fact, I think you really have to be a fan to enjoy this film. I saw it with a couple of friends that had never read the comic book and they felt a bit lost. Especially with this whole symbiote because the viewer is given no explanation about where it's from or what it truly is... Besides when I heard people coming out of the theater talking about the film, all they were saying is that it was FUNNY. It made me realize that it was indeed the best aspect of the film. Spider-Man is sometimes a funny character but I truly don't remember laughing all the time when reading Spidey comic books. I felt sorry to hear people talk about Peter as if he were some kind of idiot and that he was not convincing as a super-hero.

Oh my god, I just broke down. I placed an orders for all three of the statues-Black Spidey, Red Spidey, and the Venom statue. I won't be getting them all, but I'd like to have my options when the time comes. My first Marvel orders...

I just came back from the movie and I agree with you Dark_Spidey on the fact that Peter is laughed at way too much. He has a lot of silly scenes. The movie in general feels a lot more like a Sam Raimi film than a Spider-man movie. I still loved it but will need to see it several more times before I can form a solid opinion on it.
The movie, in certain parts, felt a lot like the comic book. The action scenes were great and I thought the character development was good, with the exception of Brock. I felt like he should have had his own movie to be the villian like Green Goblin from the first movie.
I felt like Gwen had a definite purpose for the movie, not saying too much so I don't spoil anything, but should have had a more important role.
All in all, CGI and special effects were great, story was good, but as Dark_Spidey said, it had a weird flow. Harry's "New Goblin" persona wasn't all that bad, Sandman looked a lot better than I expected, and Kirsten and Bryce were smokin' hot.

This was the headline on the front page from this morning's Chicago Tribune;

"NO TINGLING SENSATION: Spidey 3 amuses but lacks familiar zing"

The headlines were right.

Now I'm not going to complain about this movie, Mary Jane does enough of that for us during this marathon of a comic book that not only is there a string quartet playing in the background but the movie theatre here in Chicago actually handed out violins as you entered to take your seat.

This movie was good, don't get me wrong, better than Superman Returns handsdown, (this is coming from someone who would take ol' Blue over any other superhero ever) but it did leave you feeling like you had just entered a new franchise and not the beloved Spidey films we have all come to LOVE.

The action was great and our characters all looked the part, but what was lacking was the one element that made Spidey 1 and 2 the greatest comic book movies around, character development.

This movie actually made me do something that I didn't think I would ever do, I started thinking about how Raimi and company could have made Spidey 1 and 2 different to make this movie work better. In truth, the first two are exactly what they should have been. Raimi has just lost sight, not all, but just alittle like Peter in the movie, of what made his movies great. This movie would have worked with 2 villians, (save Venom for Spidey 4) and more crapping on Pete. The movie still works, however I wont be seeing it again until I find it under a Christmas tree on DVD.

It's bad when all the people in the theatre walk out and feel like a hero let them down. Spidey saves the girl in this one, but the fans who expected his web to last forever fell hard to the ground. They say that a hero will save us, and you know what they are right. I'm going to go watch Spiderman 2.1 and have the movie end the way Spidey 3 should have, making a Superman fan want to swing through the air on webs rather than in the clouds with a cape.

i was afraid that raimi would eventually turn the franchise evil dead like. i guess if tobey doesn't want to do S-4, bruce campbell will be the leading candidate? :lol GROOVY!!!

Venom definitely could have had his own movie.
look for venom to have the lead villian in S-4. and also look for the emergance of carnage.

I saw it last night.

It was good but not great. Spidey 1 and 2 are a level above it for sure.

Also, what the hell was with the "end battle" news reporters? Very lame and no need for it. Big distraction IMO.

Venom was ok but nothing special, I expected more. I did like Sandman's character.

Dark Spidey parts were my favorite and Christopher Young did a fantastic job at keeping the original scores and adding new ones.
