OK, there seems to be some interest in the Lurtz thread for a custom GOTHMOG after all. I believe there were about 5 or 6 people who chimed in so far.

Seeing as it's VERY unlikely that Sideshow will ever get to Gothmog, what's the consensus here about interest? Is this a character you'd like to add to your LOTR collection?

you guys are too anxious,Sideshow will do them eventually.

Highly doubt SS will do a Gothmog. He didn't have much screen time and there isn't much demand for him.

I just checked the other thread and saw that Shawn was charging $200+ for Lurtz. That's a little too high for me especially since you can get a 1/4 Lurtz for about $50 more. I might make an exception for Gothmog though, only if the sculpt is really good.

personally i dont see sideshow doing many more figures than the fellowship. the line is so slow and they cant even sell out their regular editions or exclusive faramir(who isnt that bad) that i fear for this line. its a shame because i was hoping for secondary charactors like hama, gamling and wormtongue. but i doubt we'll ever see it. with that said i will be interested in just about any custom as long as it looks pretty good and is as close to screen accurate as possible. so count me in for Gothmog.

I do fear this line will end with the Fellowship. I think Sideshow could justify ending the line once the Fellowship is complete. Gandalf, Merry, Pippin and Gimli... and then bye-bye.

Gothmog would be quite an undertaking. Not only a head sculpt and hands, but the armor would need to be cast as well. But seeing Shawn's Lurtz gives me hope.

Yeah, I'm in on this one also and not because it is the one I want but because it is made. I have not seen the other thread about the $200 lurtz so that is alittle above my limit. It would have to be darn near perfect-and not SS half a eye brow Faramir perfect.

Unfortunately I have no real interest in a Gothmog figure. Not being a fan of the really ugly guys, I couldn't see him on my shelf unless I had some cooler characters behind which I could hide him.

It would be tragic if this line ended with the Fellowship. I'm beyond lucky to have gotten Faramir at all, and frankly that's one thing from which we should derive some hope. They have gone beyond the Fellowship, and I would be a bit surprised if he remained the only non-Fellowship character to be made.

I hope you're right, Cap... we'll all know by year's end.

As to Gothmog, we have 8 for and 7 against. Not so good. I'm sure the interest would double if people could actually SEE the 1/6th figure first.

I have a feeling I may have to wait for one of those OOAK ebay auctions to actually get this guy... or try to build one myself. His face is pretty messed up, might be very forgiving in terms of an amateur sculptor.

But let's keep hope alive! Shawn said he'd need 20 people for a ground-up project. We're almost halfway there. Of course, he still hasn't said if this is even a project he'd do. Lots of hurdles to go. :)

i would think we'd get theoden in his non-armour as well as saruman for the non-fellowship and i think i heard that they were considering releasing aragorn with all his outfits and then changed so me might also get another version of him as well as gandalf the grey. if they can't do armour they will be pretty limited in what they can do with the line long term.

At the rate the LOTR 1/6 figures have been released, it's not surprising people don't hold out much hope for ever getting some of the more difficult to produce characters, like Gothmog. Whether Sideshow ever gets far enough along in the line to do some of the more complicated figures could depend on how long their license with New Line continues.

If there are no complications on the horizon, I want to believe they will do Gothmog at some point. Gothmog will not be an easy figure to make, but I believe he can be done, and I hope Sideshow eventually does make him. We need some minions to balance this line. The Star Wars line has done very well with a balance of good and evil characters, and it's time the LOTR line gets some of that energy, too.

But the real problem is with the figures themselves. It goes beyond using the basic human figure bodies. Even the Hobbits required specially designed bodies. Orcs, goblins, and uruks will require something special, too, if they are to be done with as much authenticity as Sideshow has brought with the other characters so far.

Granted, there are many ifs in the equation, but with the Hobbit on the horizon, I think the possibilities are looking much better now, with another surge of interest likely when the movies finally arrive. I personally hope they go all the way with this line, and I'm in it for the long haul. I guess we'll just have to wait and see, tho.
