Anyone know how to get iTunes to let you reorder your tracks so they play in the order you want? I tried to rename them 001, 002, etc. but even that doesn't work. It's very frustrating, especially when you have an audiobook that plays all out of order.

Any tips?

are you referring to a playlist dave?? just create a new playlist in itunes then just drag whatever song or book you want in the specific order you want them to play in.

Go to the album you want to reorganize, and right click the first song.

Click on "Get Info."

Select the "Info" tab.

To the right middle of the screen, you will see "Track Number" and windows for track # of #.

Type in the track number that you want to assign that specific song, and either click OK and repeat the process with the next song, or click the "Next" button on the bottom left and it will take you to the next song on the album, and you can click "OK" when you have assigned numbers to all of the songs.

This has worked for me. Good luck!!

On a playlist, make sure that you click/highlight the little arrow space above the vertical list of numbers. If the Name, Artist or Album headings at the top are highlighted, it won't list them according to the track number.

Maybe this will help, Dave. Select all the tracks in that book/album and then right-click and select get info. Then make sure the book/album title is the same for all of that particular book/album. Also, make sure you use the _ of _ option, number the tracks. You don't need the zeros. Just use 1,2 or 3, etc...

I hope this helps, Dave! iTunes is great once you get the ins and outs of it. I've had problems of this sort too.. sometimes you have to just check and make sure the book/album has all the correct and/or necessary info while being uniform for all the tracks.

Oh! Also, if the album names, artist names or whatever are different and you want them to play in one "album" or whatever then you will need to check the "Part of a compilation."

Good luck!

Here's a couple of screenshots of mine...

Assuming the track numbers have already been assigned to the tracks, clicking on the Albums tab at the top of the main iTunes window should put them all in the correct order. Click on it twice if you have to.

I've never used iTunes on a PC, but on my Mac it lets me put the tracks in any order I want when I create a new playlist (drag and drop), and then when I update it to my iPod and select that playlist, the tracks play in that same order. Is it not that way on a PC??

It's exactly that way on a PC.

Maybe your software on the Ipod is f***ed up? :monkey3
Any possibilities to update the software/firmware?

This is a really dumb question, but are you sure your iPod isn't set to play tracks from a playlist at random? Other than that, I can't think of a reason why it wouldn't play them in order (unless your software is messed up)

Oh dang, Dusty's right. My iPod was set to shuffle accidentally once, and I couldn't figure out why all of the songs weren't playing in order. Maybe it's that--it would be an easy fix!

Nope, it's not on shuffle - There must be something screwy with the files, but it seems every audiobook I do ends up out of sequence when I transfer it to the ipod.

I sometimes have had trouble with tracks with the areas that list Track X of XX. Ive had some discs where some tracks would have a number in the second field and others not and it throws off the order. I usually make sure the 2nd field is blank with all tracks or at least they all match. Same thing with the Disc X of XX area.
Also youd have to adjust this in the info area in iTunes. cant on the iPod

Its far fetched, but has been an issue for me in the past.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Here's another ipod question. I think it would be cool to listen to DVD commentaries on my ipod while traveling. Anyone know of a program that rips these and makes it easy to import to an ipod?

DVD Catalyst is what I use. It's really simple to use.
