I have an iPod Touch that needs updating. I backed it up, but it's my understanding that I'll lose all my apps anyway.

Anyway of preventing this?

Also, iTunes needs to be updated as well. Which would be better to do first, iTunes or the iPod?

Thanks!

if you back up your ipod, you won't lose your apps. You'll just have to reload them from itunes.

I would follow this sequence when it comes to your ipode

1) update itunes
2) back up ipod
3) update ipod
4) reload apps

I got iTunes updated, but I can't get the iPod to update. I keep getting a 9006 error. :(

Do you have anti virus? Some seem to block apple updates for some reason. Shut it off for a do update then turn it back on.

I did that and still got it. Reading up on it, most are saying it's the internet connection and it doesn't take much to mess it up. I may have to try it 6 or 7 times to get it to go through. :(
