Don't get me wrong the custom work on this forum is unbelievableand I don't mean to offend anyone. I know the flavor of the moment usually gets the attention, but man, it seems I can't turn around without seeing Jokers and Bales and Indys. And they are wonderfully done. The DA and Les Jokers are mouth watering. But is no one working on anyone else. Hell, I can't sculpt to save my life. I tried sculpting a James Arness from McCain's Law years ago [does that reference date me too much?] and other than being able to tell it was a human male the likeness wasn't there. I am cursed to live vicariously thru the works of other, more talented individuals. I have decided, just due to the mere volume of heads I have to try my hand at painting, but that will be a bit before I have anything ready.
So I ask you talented sculptors and customizers again:
Is there anything new you're working on?

What characters are you doing? Are you using existing sculpts or did you make new ones to fill the roles? And, yes, that armor is pricey. I have some of the EVA armor and really need to sit down and figure out how to do camo patterns. Can't wait to see that corridor!

Just my thought!!!
I'm a complete newbie on this site and although I've seen amazing work on that site lately, I'm already getting bored, hence why I haven't posted in weeks!
Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to insult anyone here! Once again, you guys are good, but I'm beginning to wonder if this site hasn't become the official Dark Knight's board!!!!!!
I love Batman, really, he comes in my top greatest list of characters! But you know what they say! Too much of something kills that thing! I was a Star Wars fan who grew disgusted of Star Wars because of that, and at the moment, I'm beginning to feels just like this with Batman... which is a shame! So much so that my latest WIP will be a Chris Reeve Supes... just in reaction to the Bat's overdose!!!!!

Working on a non Batman custom but I bash as I cant sculpt

But my view is this - I dont sell my customs (contradiction placed my first custom up for sale this morning in the For Sale forum)

Some of the more active customizers on here do regularily, and given they want to sell (no doubt to help fund their collecting addictions) sculpts and repaints

So it makes sense for them to do the work on the flavour of the moment

but this also gives me as a buyer of custom stuff a better choice to bash my figure with (no euphamism intended)

I admit variety is the spice of life, and maybe this should be an inspirational thread rather than a bashing thread

Maybe this thread should be about suggestions, what youd like to see, whats in the movie pipeline that should be sculpted (to cash in on it when it comes out and give the customizer enough time to nail the custom so we all cant stand to miss out on having it and putting it on our SSC, HT , Medi figure)

Or suggest a cool one that got overlooked in the past

Take a look in the . . . $h!T its dissapeared (was gonna suggest the request a licence forum)

Anyway maybe its time to start a thread in here, call it an inspirational ideas thread ?

Absolutely. I did not and do not intend this thread to be about bashing those doing the Bat, Indy etc...
Hell, I'm a Batman fan from waaaay back. But I like a variety of things in a variety of genres.
I started the "Save the Planet of the Apes" campaign thread years ago, and, as much as I love the POTA stuff, I also frequent other areas as well. My collection includes:
Planet of the Apes
V
Buffy
Lost in Space
Star Trek
Battlestar Galactica
super heroes
villains
Supernatural
I Spy
Star Wars
Universal Monsters
Hellboy
Dr. Who
Thunderbirds
Captain Scarlet
Space Precinct
Aliens
and much more
with figures from
Hasbro
21st Century
Dragon
DiD
ITPT
Hot Toys
SFM
Marx
Majestic Studios
and sooo many more.
I just want to be inspired by everything new.

We need a thread with nothing but pictures of custom figures with no text (for inspiration), POST-A-CUSTOM... just pics and anybody can contribute pics as they see fit whether it be pics of their own work or a figure they've seen online. (we could have some responses, but there should be a rule that if you post a response or question, you have to post a pic too :D )

That could be very fun.

To answer Ironman's initial question... I've been working on some Batman-related customs lately (not Dark Knight, mind you!) I've finished up some comic-inspired figures of Ra's Al Ghul & Scarecrow, and I've been working on some new 6MDM stuff as usual. Also, have a Hans Gruber from Die Hard in the works now as well. I just haven't been inspired to travel back 5 or 6 pages to dig up my customs thread and post any of it.

i have always loved the customs that are not the flavor of the day so to speak & really off the wall. that would include a present popular figure but from a new perspective..........kind of like the custom challenges. ive said before i think its cool to come up with something totally new that you havent seen, that way no one can compare it to anything.....:D.

Figures not for customers...
(Because there are quite a few of those coming too)

Antonio Banderas ZORRO
THE SHADOW (my own version, early style)
Adam West as BATMAN
The CROW

A few of my Batman 1939 set, including
The Penguin
Commissioner Gordon
The Riddler
Hugo Strange
The Red Monk
& Batgirl

A few more of the 89-97 Batman movie characters
to finish that collection out

Some ROCKETEER characters

MAD MAX

GREEN HORNET $ KATO

And if I can ever get back to them
my own JOHN WAYNE cowboy version

Several versions of INDY

Yet another RADU vampire

a few surprise figures
AND

Three to Five personal characters of which none of you are aware. My own creations. You will see a couple of these soon actually. Before year's end I hope. They have all been on back burners for years now.
I get so many folks wonder why this takes this long, or that...and some of my own figures are taking years. It's been two years now since my own Shadow was started. He will be finished for my collection soon though.
So, yes, I have PLENTY of figures, just little time to get to them all.

And I share your disdain for too much Joker stuff. I haven't helped much there I know. I still hope to produce much there. But in all, I am still enjoying the figure making work, and WILL BE MAKING MORE ORIGINAL CUSTOMS YET!
You'll see! :naughty

I know how you feel Steve. It's gotten a bit oversaturated for sure, but hopefully now it will start balancing out again.

As for myself, I am working on a lot of different projects. I still have a few of my original DarkArtist Batman customs coming, to complete my set... but still a while off.

I am working on a V for Vendetta head and eventual custom, planning a Comedian figure from Watchmen, a Conan set (both film and non film versions) and a Somnambulist figure from The Cabinet of Dr Caligari.

AND I am planning a new line of completely custom creations, dubbed... "DarkWorld: Hell's Highway".... LOTS of interesting characters planned. Fans of my art style, Expressionism or apocalyptic fans will no doubt be very interested in seeing it.

Not to mention my very delayed commission work. :monkey2

Tears bro! Tears of joy! You guys just wait! His original art...which I've seen...made into figural subjects....just you wait and see!!!

:rock !!!!

I've got some tricks up my sleeve for the near future, too:chew I guess DA, Les and I think alike; I've got a few characters coming that I know people have wanted for a while, as well as many of my own characters from my novel.

I know the Batman thing has dominated for several months now. Don't know if that's good or bad:lol But it will level off. The fact that people are bored enough to post how bored they are is proof of that!:lol Hang in there. The companies might be vested in TDK until New Years, but us freelance guys have you covered it seems.

:bangheadOutside of my Ada head commissions, (which at least are about getting what I want made for myself as opposed to flavor of the month, but I suppose since Ghostbusters stuff dominate many threads now they have probably BECOME flavor of the month), I have a LOT of custom projects started at the beginning of the year I really, really need to finally finish (but then I keep starting new things instead! Ack!).

Diorama wise I have a mall set half built for a SUPERNATURAL/Dawn of the dead-esque type photo shoot I've wanted to do (which I wanted done when the Supernatural brother heads came in- HA! Blew that one!) with lots of custom zombies I've been making.

I may cheat at this stage and just photoshop in backgrounds onto the images instead (ala my 1:6 Kolchak comic stuff) because I really feel like screwing around with my toys, dammit, and I was getting happy results with that the more I learned.

I've been working on turning my big display case into a 4 level space station set-up for my Aliens/Doctor Who stuff. I figure that's not considered late though until I actually get my kick-ass painted Hicks head back from Les. :D

One level is gonna be my Predators vs giant spiders that have escaped and have cocooned and killed the crew hanging from the ceiling, with lots of glowing blue spider blood. I'm tired of Predators just hunting humans and fighting the Aliens.

I've been making a 1:6th made-up version of the THING to go along with my custom MacCready. I keep throwing more crap on him so the wait has actually been productive (laugh). It's freakin huge. I really should have thought it out...

Then more Classic Doctor Who monsters I'm making for commission. I just finished Eldrad from Hand of Fear, and have a Fendahl, Sontarans, Draconians, and the Morbius Monster plus accessories also all done in some various stage of non-completion. :banghead :banghead:banghead

Thanks Les! It was indeed our talks and your pushing me artistically that helped get this going. I'm very excited to get this finally going. :rock

I have plans for my Kolcjak to come out of mothballs too, but it probably won't happen until next year. I have too many heads that need finishing and I'm trying to convince myself to pick up a brush and see what i can get finished.
However, I would kill to have this guy:
