Jabba's Steps Thread

When I'm talking about using pastels as a part of "weathering", I'm speaking of pastel charcoals or chalks...here's a shot of some on my worktable...

Again, I scrape some different colored pastel dust onto the steps...rub it in, accent with drawn lines (then rubbed), add a light layer of charcoal dust and flakes (pick an earth tone) and apply the fixative (clear matte) spray. There's no wrong or right, just experiment til you find a "look" that works....give it a shot and show us how it comes out!

COOL!!!!! I am going to give that a try as a project for next weekend.

Looks great Kit. I myself plan on trying to weather my steps. When I do I will provide pics. This was my first ever custom project as well. I think it is a good start.

Yeah, it's turning out to be rather fun to take some materials and try to turn them into something cool! I have no real talent for it, but it's fun to try and to get something you're proud of. I can't imagine how some of the customizers on this board do their increadible work.

I still consider myself a nobice on the customization thing, but I've laready learnbed a great deal just from working on the shelf, steps, jawa and especially the hookah lighting. I imagine how you get to be a "great" at customization is practive, practice, PRACTICE.

I'm going to bring up this old thread because I've finally got around to starting my Jabba steps.

I decided to go with four steps configured in a different way. Not screen accurate but as close as I could get with what I'm doing with the throne.

I went about it a different way because of my occupation. What I did was use four pieces of wood and glued and nailed them together to form the steps then I textured the with wood filler which is drying right now. I should be able to put a coat of paint on them in an hour then some glaze to dirty them up and add a little staining.




Here's a side in place and partially textured.

Those are what used to be a 5" x 1 5/16" x 48" long piece of cypress. I planed it down to 15/16" thick, cut them to length and put them together.

Let me know if you have trouble finding the lumber. I have access to thick, kiln dried maple and I could put together a set and all you'd have to do is texture and paint them. I could probably do that for cheaper than you can get the wood.

Nice work... I was going to go the styrofoam route as others have done but these are making me seriously consider using wood...

Thanks! I used Kilz Craft Cote paint Natural Clay color. It was the closest, off the shelf spray paint color I could find at WallyWorld.

I finished the raised back portion of Jabba's steps today. It's the start of the platform landing that is behind Jabba's throne.

With the flash which shows the gap between the throne and platfor which I will block off with a small piece of plywood...someday.

If I didn't see I wouldn't believe it, those steps started out as wood.
