It's true. I was a kid, and my family and I were in Tampa Florida visiting some friends when they decided to go to a theater, so we saw T2, and I never even noticed the name of the film. I just thought, "cool, some action film with Arnold." I had seen most of his films at that point. After I saw T2, it became my favorite film of all time, then my dad was like, "You know, this is a sequel and the original came out a long time ago, and Arnold was the bad guy." I was like, "whaaaat?" The next day we got the original VHS from a video store and saw it.

First, I'd like to state for the record that I did not bring up Terminator in this thread.

Second, since it was brought up, I will say that I honestly don't remember which I saw first, T1 or T2.

the first one was quirky and cheesy in a cutesy way. pretty much a Comfy movie you watch when it is raining outside and there is nothing else on.
a couple of jokes were funny, I used to like the first joe dirt a lot when I was young. humor is pretty harmless.

the trailer for this reminds me of dumb and dumber to, all the charming stuff from the first one is gone and replaced with a bunch of weird gross jokes and a dumb weird plot.
Joe dirt was not the most charming movie ever or anything but at least it felt as sincere as dumb and dumber .

this sequels try to capture that but they just can't
they are too self aware, even the dialogue is too "in on the joke" The same goes for the Vacation sequel, the sincerity of the original is completely gone (Terminator feels the same)
I am not sure why this happens so much, Even Jurassic World feels that way, feels phony.

it kind of feels like if a cover band tried to play a song from the 80s but they were making fun of it while playing it.

he was a radio dj that interviews Joe Dirt in the first movie.

just like Dumb and Dumber to, they are bringing all these old characters back without a good reason, just to have them back
