im new here guys im more of a resin kit modeler and painter but im loving this new hobby i started...

and i want to say if i can ever help any of you guys out with painting tips or anything dont hesitate to ask

in the model kit community i was given tips by GREAT painters and shared their advice with newcomers who asked me

so far ive been helped out by some of the customizers on here...

but what really bothers me is to be ignored by some people when i ask a question....
i asked the same question 2 or 3 times in a thread and pmd the person with no reply...and that irks me.....better painters than them have helped me out and it just rubs me the wrong way....it would take no more than 3-5 minutes to help out a fellow collector....youre not curing cancer youre painting little heads.....

sorry just had to get that out its been bothering me.....carry on :wave

thanks guys

i dont mean to come off the wrong way but it really bothered me....

boot25 a great painter took the time to give me advice and a bunch of other guys on customizing....overall a great experience so far just one bad experience..

the question was incase any of you are curious....im doing a LT waters from tears of the sun custom using suns newest willis HS

he has that shadowed bald head and a scruffy beard and am desperately wanting to know how to do that....
i sent boot25 my dexter head to paint and wanted to do this one on my own...

heres the pic

The best thing I think you could do with this matey is use washes, I use washes not inks to create thin hair and skin tones, I use citedel paints from gamesworkshop and their washes are really great to use.

Then I would apply a very light Drybrush of different greys and white.

Dont know if that helps buddy?

thanks greggo,,,

i seen your indy after i saw the person i asked 3 times about theres...

yours came out great

agreed.
i always try to help people whenever i can.
i think we should all try to help each other...i dont really see the point in keeping "secrets".
we can all improve if we share our techniques and help each other out.

i think its the fear they will lose commissions?

i was making money over at the other forums painting kits from $150-$500 and i still gave tips...

fact of the matter is everyone will have their own style i learned from someone so why shouldnt i pass that on? this isnt my career its my hobby ....if i make a few bucks doing it cool...im not looking to steal anyones commissions....just want to learn how to do certain things...

heck i know i can paint my dexter head but i sent it to boot25 i like his style and it keeps the hobby going.....i dont know i just dont get some people....to blatently ignore me really pisses me off...

yup...

im doing my LT waters but would send stuff to boot again because i love his style....and the guy gave me a couple of tips on the lt waters beard and head...

How about using some barely washed down acrylic paint in a thick layer and before it is dry, texture it with a hard brush. Not sure it could work, but if you have a head you can sacrifice, it's worth a try...:D

Just had a look at that ref pic of Lt. Waters
Here one of my Locke sculpt paint job which has that similar stubble effect that you wanted to achieve on Waters

Well i hope the particular Bruce Willis sculpt that you have in hand has sculpted stubbles. It'll make life much easier.
This is how i do it... water down the acrylic paint (mix of brown black and white until it's sort of light grey). go over the stubble area in very light layers until u achieve the shade you wanted. remember the trick is you want to see a fair bit of skin tone underneath thats why only go over the area with very light watered down acrylic paint.
Go over some particular areas with very fine brush/pin to create individual stubbles (darker shade) Finally go over some areas again with light grey/white shade using ultra fine brush/pin.

it has very little but with all these great tips ill make due...

now what about the bald head with the shadow look on the back part? pastels?

Some really well made points.
I think the issue is, this board really doesn't have that many do it yourselfers.
Members here for the most part are happy to pay to have sculpts commissioned or painted.
I've been working on a tutorial for quite awhile now, and promise to post it here when I'm finished.
I would love to see more guys pick up a brush and try this for themselves. It really is fun and believe me, it ain't as hard as some people would have you think, after all they're just doll heads:)

Haha nice self quoting there. :lol

Anyways, I used to ask around about how to paint this and how to sculpt that, and I got zero, zilch, nada, no answers from the people I asked (in other forums), just like you. I've even stopped asking around out of anger really, haha. I said inside my head "yeah, don't answer me, I'll get it done by myself and you'll see f@cker" haha.

I kept practicing on my own, looking at the few useful tuts I found online and keep imitating, kept doing what others did until I got it right, or until I was happy with it. I've always been on my own in this thing, with the help of tutorials I've found.

I would gladly help around, I've even chipped in in other topics, but no one has asked me personally, anyways. haha.

As for painting Bruce Willis, Xenoviper gave you a great tip, so it'll be redundant if I chip in. :p

I know I've commented on this before, but that has to be the BEST Locke paint job I've seen, heck it might be the best paintjob I've ever seen! The lips, the white of the eyes, the scar, just perfect in every way!
Everytime I've seen it I just have to go back and keep looking at it!
Sorry if I took this thread in another direction.:wink1:
