Super Freak
Darkseid was the inspiration for Thanos. He's incredibly powerful, and essentially exists just to create suffering and death. But, Darkseid in the comic isn't associated with being all-powerful like Thanos is with the Infinity Gauntlet. He can take down many superheroes, including the whole Legion of Superheroes, and could threaten destruction of the earth even, but can't just realize his whims with a thought as Thanos can with the Gauntlet. And I hope they don't try to introduce something like the Gauntlet in the DC films, even though the DC universe has had very powerful weapons in its comics over the years.
His ultimate tool/quest is the anti-life equation, which has been defined in various ways over the years, it's not as versatile as the gauntlet, but for the purposes of a doomsday device it's the same thing.
Although the gauntlet should be more fun to see on-screen.
