What's your keyboard of choice for Internet warring on SSF (or replying to this thread): mechanical or membrane?! :horror

I remember several years ago in the PC thread, Something Sexy told me about mechanical keyboards, and he recommended Das as his company of choice. So, in 2014, I decided to purchase a Das Keyboard 4 Professional with Cherry MX Blue switches. Since then, typing hasn't been the same. Every key-press on a mechanical board feels deliberate and satisfying, and it's so easy on the fingers. I especially love the clicky sounds and the tactile feedback of the Blue switches.

Right now, I'm looking into buying a tenkeyless Cherry MX Brown switch board for my laptop. I'll probably go with Das again, because I love their build quality. Also, the extra USB hubs on their boards come in very handy.

Hell, I don't know. I just use what comes with the computer. :lol

I'm using a laptop at the moment. I want to get another desktop soon. I'd love to have a lit keyboard.

I've got a pretty fancy Logitech keyboard that came with my computer. If you wanted to buy one like mine, I'm guessing it would set you back somewhere around $19.99 at a store so obviously it's not in everyone's price range. I don't want to brag but it has controls for my music right on the keyboard. I can turn the sound on/off and the volume up and down. Also, the keys light up when I have my overhead light on. Well, they don't really light up but there's enough light so I can see them which is pretty much the same thing.

I used to do that as well :lol. Never really put much thought into a keyboard. But, I guess aside from the mouse, it's one device on your PC that gets the most use.

I sometimes wish mine was lighted, for the characters where I have to use the shift key, but I can by without it.

I have a old, wireless, Logitech K400 for my TV. It's pretty small and portable, but it occasionally misses letters when I'm typing. I won't use for anything other than surfing the web.

How do you manage to type without feeling your way around the keys? :lol

Just like Ween, I probably wouldn't want to go there, myself.

I don't want to brag either, but I use a Microsoft Natural Keyboard Pro... Wait, did you say elite or obsolete?

Heck, I don't care if it is older than some of the people on here posting - it IS obsolete and I love it - probably been using it for over 15 years now and every time I look at getting another keyboard I just don't want to part with this one because I'm used to the key configuration, it has a bunch of keys I have programmed, and it's like a comfortable old shoe. I had to use workarounds when I installed it on Windows 7 because it hasn't been supported in a dog's age (quite literally), but hey - if it ain't broke don't fix it! It clicks too when I type, and it's corded so there's no delay. I guess all the new-fangled stuff has improved to the point where cordless doesn't create delays long enough to notice, but I still like my obsolete keyboard - it's the oldest part of my desktop system and we go way back, keyboard and me.

A few years ago, I found an old Compaq board just trashed on the sidewalk with someone's electronic junk that they laid out of recycling. It was practically in pristine condition, so I took it home, cleaned it up a bit, and it worked as good as new. I'm very surprised at the longevity of some of the membrane boards.

Mentioning old boards, though, I'd really like to pick up an IBM Model M one of these days. I remember using back in middle school. It's probably one of the best typing keyboards, ever.

I almost got one of those years ago. One where the keys were flat either but sort of dipped down so you didn't have to reach for the number or symbol keys. I always said I'd get one when my keyboard went bad, but my computers always conked out before my keyboard did.

That's why I never got one. I've never had a keyboard die on me so I don't want to "waste" one by buying one I don't need, just want.

Maybe you're not a true gamer. Keyboard and mouse do go bad.

Been using the main one for 2 years now. The other one is on backup, for 3 years, and gather dust but still good.

Yeah, all of us use them, but not all keyboards are the same :lecture.

Yeah, that's definitely true. One time I had a keyboard where if you hit Num Lock, the actual Num Lock key lit up, instead of the icons at the top of the keyboard.

It just goes to show that performance is everything.
