I was reading a post on this subject on i09 and I thought it'd be a nice point of discussion here on SSF.

Often times when we see a movie trailer and witness snippets of scenes or dialogue that seem totally bad-ass...but when the final movie rolls into theaters we sometimes find those awesome scenes totally missing.

Now, this can be attributed to changes in writing or directorial decision or studio interference, but sometimes you watch a deleted scene and scratch your head over why some the best scenes are left on the cutting room floor when they should have been in the final film.

Also, do you watch deleted scenes of your favorite movies (or any movie, for that matter) on dvd?

This thread will contain a couple SPOILERS

----

Star Trek.

There is a shot of baby Spock in this trailer that was missing from the final movie as is a scene between Spock's Ma and Pa (not in this trailer though).

15 seconds in for baby Spock

"There's also a sequence where Nero says "The wait is over," which is in a bunch of the trailers but not in the movie. I think this is right after he busts out of the Klingon prison."

Also missing: Scenes involving young Kirk and reasons for why he wanted to destroy that Corvette.

Terminator Salvation

At 1:55, there's a scene in which John says "Something has changed. This is not the future my mother warned me about. I don't know if we can win this war." Kate says "If you saved us in another future, you can save us in this one."

The lack of that scene in the film especially sucks because it could bettered the film. It's a soft, tender moment between the two characters we're supposed to care most about and there aren't many of these instances in the final film. It shows John at his most unsure and vulnerable instead of the non-stop yelling and growling in the flick.

In another trailer there's a shot of um...a cameo robot picking up T-600's minigun. This could have been an awesome scene.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine

Kid storm missing from the final film. It wouldn't have been a great scene, but cool nonetheless.

The Incredible Hulk

Has a scene in which Banner and Doc Samson talk next to a fireplace

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="https://www.youtube.com/v/zOnkXo4lLkI&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="https://www.youtube.com/v/zOnkXo4lLkI&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

A very cool scene featuring a possible cameo of Captain America was not in the theatrical release of the film. The scene shows Banner in Antarctica, attempting to end his own life:

Armageddon

There's an inspirational speech made by Bruce Willis' character in the trailer but is missing in the film.

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="https://www.youtube.com/v/Y0tFOuCoT8c&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="https://www.youtube.com/v/Y0tFOuCoT8c&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Reign of Fire

Dragons battling helicopters are depicted in the trailer, but is oddly lacking in the film

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="https://www.youtube.com/v/uH9pKkyd8Ek&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="https://www.youtube.com/v/uH9pKkyd8Ek&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Kill Bill Volume 2

This is not a trailer, but it's an awesome scene that should have been in the film:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="https://www.youtube.com/v/ouFLD3lMTVU&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="https://www.youtube.com/v/ouFLD3lMTVU&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

I'll usually give them a chance, but I've come to the conclusion that most (but not all) were deleted with good reason.

Or what about alternate takes in trailers? I know the Dark Knight had a ton of alternate takes that were in the trailers but a different take was used in the film. Terminator Salvation also has some alternate shots of the Marcus "reveal" scene. I know at least with the Dark Knight, I watched the trailers over and over, it didn't feel right when seeing the final film because the takes were different than the ones I was used to. And Frankly I think those ones were better than the ones in the final film.

Just as an example, I know the "Dawn in Coming" line was said a couple of different ways in Harvey's Speech.

Yeah and what's disappointing is that most of those alternate takes never make it to dvd. For most movies it isn't important or really worthwhile, but sometimes you just want a look into an actor's process. This would be a great feature for films like The Dark Knight.

I swear I saw Storm in the Wolverine movie and I thought I saw the scene in TS where T-800 picked up that weapon. Maybe I was seeing things???

I always watch the deleted scenes, directors interviews, cast interviews, alternative endings.

That's the whole point of the dvd - to get the full movie experience.

The first time I really noticed this was in the Steve Martin/Michael Caine comedy "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels". There is a scene in the trailer that was not in the movie where the two of them pass an old woman on a pier and one of them hip-checks her into the drink.

I can not even fathom the reason to have deleted that scene.

But I notice it all the time now.

In "You, Me, and Dupree", there is a scene where Molly comes down the stairs to find Dupree asleep with his naked ass hanging out. But in the trailer, he was wearing a thong. And the thong being in that scene made it funnier x10!

I understand that some scenes just aren't right for various reasons such as time and continuity and get cut. But when it is apparent to me that they would have improved the movie even slightly, I sometimes wonder why the particular scene ended up on the cutting room floor.

But I really like the deleted scenes and bloopers. I loved the X-men blooper real with Spiderman showing up.

The one that stand out to me is from Mr and Mrs Smith. There is a scene in the trailer with Brad Pitt on a tricycle shooting a M60.

Here's one that isn't really a "deleted scene" but it really annoys me nonetheless:

In Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, when Indy says "Part time." The delivery of that line on the trailer was sooooooo much better than what ended up in the movie. The trailer was a short matter of fact delivery, while the movie had much more different, I don't know how to explain, delivery.

The trailer's delivery was said with a degree with sarcasm and tongue-in-cheekiness (if that's a word) whereas the film's delivery was low-key and matter-of-fact.

I agree...the trailer had the better of the two.

Not that particular scene, but Storm was in the cages.

I'll have to wait and see about T-800 and the weapon.

actually you're not wrong abt the t800 scene. it doesn't go exactly like in the trailer, but he does take over the mini-gun from the t600 when it starts malfunctioning and spraying gunfire all over the lab. he kinda comes from behind and rips it from the t600's arm...

I thought he got the gun from another Terminator, but I couldn't remember exactly how.

yeah that really bugged me when I saw the actual movie. That line in that trailer was said with conviction, while in the film it came across as "unsure" as Indy emphasized "part-TIME".

the court scene with Ashley judd in Natural born Killers would have been the greatest moment of the movie IMO.You gotta see the deleted scene on the special DVD to enjoy this amazing scene.

When Batman crashes his batpod on purpose to miss Joker and Joker comes up to him i'm pretty sure there was an alternate take where he tosses his knife from one hand to the next in a playful way.
