Hi guys , every time I come on to my laptop a small icon pops up at the bottom of the screen saying " low disc space ". When I highlight it , it says you have low disc space on " PRESARIO_RP (D: ) " . In order to create more space you must make room and delete unwanted files. When it takes me to the PRESARIO file there is nothing in there except the recycle bin so obviously I can't delete anything.

I am running on windows vista. If I click computer from the start menu my local disc is half full but next to it PRESARIO has only 32.00 mb of space left and is red meaning full up.
I haven't a clue how to clean the file out and find out whats in there taking up so much room. I don't recall this being here about 2 weeks ago and I haven't downloaded and programmes or a large number of any files for that matter for a really long time. :google:confused:

Its really slowing my computer down and making some sites take really long ( paypal especially ) .
Is this something simple or do I need to send the comp in ?. :monkey1
I ran a virus check and theres nothing too.

Any help from someone who knows what might be the problem would be really appreciated. Thanks again guys.

Tay. :peace:cool:

yeah , its empty , its like this drive is there for no reason and it says its full even though when I click on it theres nothing in it.
Very strange. Thanks for trying anyway pal.
:)

I get this problem sometimes when I am using my external drive....what i do is make all 'hidden' files and folders 'unhidden' then delete all the crap

ok this is the problem making my computer extremely slow.

so if I click start then go to computer heres what I get popping up.
As you can see the PRESARIO file is near full and is causing the slowing down , the local disc is just fine and full of my normal stuff. By deleting photos , videos , mp3's etc I make space on the local disc one. Not the PRESARIO file so I'm not sure what to delete in order to make room on PREASRIO.

Ok so I click PRESARIO to go into it and this is all I get... recovery.
So I click it.

This then just leads me to this page where nothing is clickable and it warns me not to mess with anything yet two pages before it told me to start deleting stuff to make room. WTF. I'm at a complete loss here.

windows vista might have a different menu system to what i am used to so i pulled this off the net for you

Windows Vista

To enable the viewing of Hidden files follow these steps:

1. Close all programs so that you are at your desktop.
2. Click on the Start button. This is the small round button with the Windows flag in the lower left corner.
3. Click on the Control Panel menu option.
4. When the control panel opens you can either be in Classic View or Control Panel Home view:

If you are in the Classic View do the following:
1. Double-click on the Folder Options icon.
2. Click on the View tab.
3. Go to step 5.

If you are in the Control Panel Home view do the following:
1. Click on the Appearance and Personalization link .
2. Click on Show Hidden Files or Folders.
3. Go to step 5.

5. Under the Hidden files and folders section select the radio button labeled Show hidden files and folders.
6. Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide extensions for known file types.
7. Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide protected operating system files.
8. Press the Apply button and then the OK button and shutdown My Computer.
9. Now Windows Vista is configured to show all hidden files.

MAKE SURE YOU DON'T DELETE THE FILES THAT THE SYSTEM NEEDS TO RUN ! :lol

sometimes when i delete a file on a drive the computer makes a hidden copy of it so space is still being used up.

Thanks alot mate.
Before I have a shot at this when the hidden files actually come out from hiding where are they gonna be ?.

:lol

if you have hidden files in that drive they will be viewable in the drive but will be slightly faded out so you can tell which ones were hidden to begin with...after you are done make sure to make the remaining files hidden again.

i'll say it again...DON'T DELETE THE IMPORTANT FILES :monkey3

You may need to reimage your laptop. This time do a custom install and allocate just enough drive space for your D drive to keep the backup files. Traditional or default install will set it right back to the way it is now.
