Re: The Man of Steel

I just know once Hot Toys makes a Zod figure, I'll have to keep him helmeted. My one an only nitpick of the entire film is that Michael Shannon just looks like a goof. Not sure if its because of his lazy eye/silly haircut.

Re: The Man of Steel

It is better then those films.

Those films are just bad because the filmmaking was bad along with the story... MoS was well made... It just had poor character development and story IMO.

So it's allmost Bayformers bad.

I can live with that.

Re: The Man of Steel

Are you referring to Superman's suit as being Basketball Textured? Have you ever seen a Basketball? :dunno:lol

Supermans texture compared to a basketball. Yeah...nothing like a basketball :lol

This movie is NOTHING like Bayformers...
except maybe on the destruction level... but no silly toilet humor, no stupid ***** and humping jokes... this is pure Superhero gold! :rock!

He said it had poor character development, and poor story. those are two of the biggest things that plague bayformers.

It's not AS bad as bayformers, as it's missing the things you pointed out :lol

All teasing aside, it sounds like it suffers from alot of the same problems as Green Lantern.

Which... It Kinda amazes me tehy managed to make Green Lantern as Bad as it was.

The basic premsie is you've got a guy who is a Fighter Jet test pilot
Who is from a backwater area ( Earth)
Recruited into what is basicly an intersteller Police Force.
Who's weapon is LITERALY powered by his imagination and willpower.

is it a goofy premise?

Yes, but SO was The First Men In Black film, which had an allmost identiacal concept, and is/was highly recieved.

Could/should have been done as a buddy cop movie.
or straight up science fiction
Or a Cop Movie where the partner is a Badguy.

But no, Silly Giant Monster, and slapstick. :facepalm

Except Green Lantern had like no satisfying action and a whiny interpretation of Hal Jordan.

Not that either...

I thought it had plenty of character development... mostly Supes, Zod, Jor-El and a bit of Louise... the first 45 minutes are dedicated to setup the Kal-El story... so I don't know what else critics were expecting... :dunno...
After that it's non-stop action though, but even during the battles, you get a lot of knots tied from the earlier setup...
I think some people have short-attention span and couldn't keep up with the narrative and action...

Loved the movie.

Very happy with the alien/superior-being take over the boyscout take, even if it is less identifiable

Re: The Man of Steel

10/10 for me.

Batman Trilogy will always be #1 comic book movies for me, but MoS is like #1B. I just loved it!!!!!

Original Superman I-II will always have a special place in my heart, they were amazing for the time they were made. They were a big influence on the genre so they just have their own special place in comic book movie history.

Avengers for me was also excellent so that is also one of my tops. So for me, no question an easy list to make, these are the best of the comic book movies:

Batman Trilogy
MoS
Superman I-II
Avengers

I trust your opinion as pretty much everything you say here rings true to me- including your pics on top comic book movies!
Seeing it Sunday!:yess:

That too.

HORRIBLY miscast, and presented badly. Green Lantern missed everywhere it possibly could.

REynolds is a TERRIBLE JOrdon.

He would have made a pretty Solid Kyle Ranier, however.

You know who would have made a pretty good, HIGH PROFILE Hal Jordan?

Tom Cruise

Hell, he already did a movie where he more or less played Hall jordan anyways.

and he already takes wacky science-fiction pretty seriously as is.

Guy would have been perfect.

There is some humor in there, but I"m being pretty serious for the most part.

Bear in mind, i've not seen it yet, and am Basing what i'm saying based soley upon what is being said, and comparing it to what I know.

I'll be going to see it tomorrow.

Question, though, Who's Louis? Are we getting a suprise ghostbusters crossover?

You nailed it...what are people expecting?
It's your EXPECTATIONS on what it should be and content that flavors your judgment...alot of critics have their own agendas- in other words alot of them made up their minds prior to seeing it

Re: The Man of Steel

My Expectations... are pretty low, and fairly simple.

I'd like a choesive retelling of the origin, as it's a reboot, and the origin story is mandatory.

I"d like a little bit of Clark as a kid, showing how he was raised with the kents.. but not too much. I've got Smallville for that If I want more. Again, as it's a reboot, The kent farm is also mandatory, so I'd like it to be sensable, if we've got to sit through it. Again.

Then a bit of Coming of age, power development, etc and ending up with Him embracing being Superman, and a Final showdown with the badguy that actualy shows how powerful Superman can be.... which i'm still not thrilled they went with Zod, as he's been a little overdone in recent years, ( re-emergence in the comics, and then REal zod, clone zod and zod Jr, and Future Zod in smallville. too.much.zod......) but I'll deal. At least it's Not Snidely WhipLuthor again.

hopefully We will get more films that expand on the mythos, if this does well enough.

:lol... I meant Louise Lane... :lol
I think it stands on it own... can hardly compare it to other Superhero movies... but if I had to,
I'd say it's better than Thor and Captain America, waaay better thant ASM,IM2 and IM3, TDKR, not better than IM1, Avengers or BB and TDK though...

For a lot of critics, it's a paycheck... they don't want to see the movie for starters... they have to... and it's pretty obvious...

Zod is actually pretty badass IMO...

I appologise for picking on you, but it's LOIS Lane. :lol

Cool. Like I said, I'm looking forward to seeing it, even with all the negative attention it's getting. If you want to see a review from someone who LIKES comic books, comic book movies, and Superman in general, Watch this one..

I've not watched it myself yet... but i'm about to rigght now.

Re: The Man of Steel

I loved this movie. I find any summer blockbuster is under lots of scrutiny and hate before it's even released by the media/critics. This movie was far superior to Superman Returns IMO and much better than Iron man 3. I liked it better than TDKR and all Marvel films so far, too. I loved every second of it (and not just because I love Henry Cavill) :lol
