Re: The Man of Steel

I think some people have short-attention span and couldn't keep up with the narrative and action...

Thing is, this film was made for short attention spans. It told the back story in choppy flashbacks and then the final hour was nothing but action and Action that was faster then a speeding bullet. The perfect film for short attention span viewers. More patient viewers, I would think, would want a more traditional story so we can get to know and care for the characters.. Sure it's Superman but it's a new Superman with slightly different origins and story. Like I said before he has like 20 lines of dialogue...tops before the action scenes hit... That is not enough to get me to connect with him.

I am not saying I am right. But labeling people who did not like the film as "short attention span" or as others had said "miserable" can easily be turned around on you.. The film just did not connect for some.. I really wish it did for me... I am so jealous that you guys got so much more out of it then I did. If this film had the character development and pacing of the original but with this cast and these F/X I would have found it to be the greatest Superhero film ever.

Things I did love..

I loved the Oil Rig scene.. I wish the film had a few more Superman saving the people type moments... Instead there was massive death and Superman did not bat an eye.... I know it would make for a boring Superman movie without the massive destruction but still there was no sense of danger and Horror of what was happening.

I loved every scene with Kevin Costner.

I loved the School Bus scene.

I loved most of the cast.

Not expecting anyone to agree with me of course. Just explaining where I was coming from.

Re: The Man of Steel

I loved this movie. I find any summer blockbuster is under lots of scrutiny and hate before it's even released by the media/critics. This movie was far superior to Superman Returns IMO and much better than Iron man 3. I liked it better than TDKR and all Marvel films so far, too. I loved every second of it (and not just because I love Henry Cavill) :lol

All Marvel films? Oooooo k. :rip

Re: The Man of Steel

This movie was Battleship with a cape and blue tights. Cool action and all the Superman "glory" we've been dying to see, but using split hairs to string together action sequences doesn't make a good story. Praising this and calling Avengers a "popcorn flick" is heretical at best. All said though, this was still 1000x better than that vomit filled bag called ASM.

Re: The Man of Steel

But you're at least happy that it made you feel something, right?

so... is this green latnern bad

X-men Origins Bad?

or Bayformers Bad?

It's not bad bad....it just has so little character development that it made me not care....

Maybe it'll work better the second time.

If the shoe fits... I guess... I said some people, speaking mostly about the critics...
And no, this wasn't done for short attention span viewers... as I said, the reason people are saying that is because they couldn't "connect" or as I say keep up with the narrative and character development during the action scenes...
You can see how Superman changes and evolves throughout the movie, and specially during the battle... specially during
Zod's demise
If you don't see how he's put in a very difficult position there and how he has to make an extreme decision then, I don't know what to tell you! :dunno

Also, there's plenty of scenes where he tries to protect humans, but he isn't able to do it all the time...

You also can see how he gets a better understanding of what Jor-El was trying to do with the whole
Natural birth issue, and how all the Kryptonians were "engineered" and that was part of the demise of Krypton, and you can see it in Zod during his exchanges with Supes.

As I said, maybe because all of the action you couldn't keep up with all these developments in the story, and there are a lot more, but hey... to each his own...
You don't HAVE to like it, but I think you and a lot of critics are dismissing it unfairly and for the wrong reasons... :duff

Again, the movie is not perfect, but it is a damn great Superman movie!

Bummer. I haven't seen it yet but I was hoping there would be more substance.

Too many people think the only good Superman film is one where he wails on sh-t with his fists. I guess one of those people is Zack Snyder.

This is way better than Battleship. Battleship was a homeless man's Transformers.

Part of what made the Reeve version work were the "Clark" moments. Though, arguably, there were far too much of them in the older flicks (and even Returns). Don't get me wrong, I don't want Lois and Clark on the big screen, but it would've been nice to have those here. unfortunately, the human aspect was left on the doorstep in favor of overwhelming action sequences (and they are epic!). The end, especially, while cool, seems devoid of Superman as protector, which is what's so unique about Superman... or at least what was so unique about him.

I meant in overall scope. It's action for the sake of action and quite literally, a dumb, fun, summer blockbuster.

The big difference for me was that i cared about what was happening in these action scenes and about these characters. I didn't care about anyone in Battleship. And when the old dudes did the Right Stuff walk on a WW2 Battleship i hated my life.

Could the story here have been sharper or better executed? Yes. But for all this movies flaws, I don't hate it the way I do STID, because it at least tries. They didn't just rip off a better film. They went for it whole hog. I'm interested to see where it could go from here. I want to see Clark/Superman develop into the hero we all know he is. I want to see how Batman fits in this world.

On another note: If Zod and Superman fighting cause this level of destruction, what would Darkseid and an army of Parademons do?

Based on what we saw, would Superman even care? :dunno :lol

Re: The Man of Steel

Love the movie they did what needed to be done to supes, darkening him a little, the boy scout was cool in the 30s, 40s and 50s not in today's world, and I didn't miss the idiot Clark from the 70s, this is the superman the world needs now, lol

Re: The Man of Steel

But we havent scene Superman throw these amounts of punches and do what he can do in the comics on film yet so that was cool. And the scenes with Lane & Costner and the slower emotional parts were very well done IMO.

It takes itself seriosuly with the acting and story but is totally radical with its visuals and action. It was a ballsy move

I have to respectfully disagree sir, there was plenty of humanity displayed by clark in this film.

I think he cares, but when the World Generator(or whatever it's called) was working, he was doing exactly what he needed to be doing. Yes, he could have been grabbing people, but who was going to stop it then? The military couldn't get near it.

And by that logic, did the Avengers(other than Cap) care? Hulk and Thor crashed the giant lizard thing into Grand Central Station(which was conveiniently empty for the middle of the day). Tony shot one down and let it crash into a building. None of them seemed to concerned with the bodycount. I like Avengers by the way, not bashing the film. Just pointing out that in big spectacle moments like that, none of the heroes ever focus on trying to save lives. They all go with the "if I stop the bad guy, I'll save more lives" approach.

Man, that is really disappointing. :(

I was really hoping for more. I thought it would be more. Ugh. I'll have to check it out and see for myself.
